BiD Network Team

The BiD Network team consists of a small group of enthusiastic and driven staff. With a lot of dedication and fun we help entrepreneurs in emerging markets. The team of BiD Network works from the head office in Amsterdam the Netherlands and an office in Kampala, Uganda and Kigali, Rwanda. Guided by the Supervisory Board, based in the Netherlands. Together, the team works to: Facilitate Investment for Small and Medium sized Enterprises in East Africa.

Gert van VeldhuisenCEO

Gert is a driven serial entrepreneur and committed impact investor. After successful exiting the first company he started, he became an angel investor. Gert reinvesting part of his profit into social impact businesses in Angola, Ghana and Indonesia, all introduced to him through BiD Network. Gert entered BiD Network as CEO in 2016 and is a strong believer of the entrepreneurial spirit and investment potential of so many committed and inspirational entrepreneurs in (East-) Africa.

Barbara AkelloINVESTMENT ANALYST RWANDA

Barbara started her professional career trading on the Ugandan Securities Exchange at African Alliance. She is bringing a wealth of experience in deal making, negotiation and quick decision-making qualities to Bid Network among others. Barbara has a passion for social entrepreneurship and impact investment and she feels she can help by working for BiD Network as she sees a lot of potential in several Ugandan start-ups and SME’s.Barbara holds a Law Degree from the University of Chester in UK and is currently working towards a Masters in Business Administration from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

Huseyin DemirhisarCOO

After a 20-year-career with Shell, ING, PYMWYMIC and Angelwings, Huseyin brings a vast international experience in corporate finance, venture capital, angel investing and investment banking. He was involved in deal making from every seat at the table. Within BiD Network he will be responsible for reinforcing investments and our operational fundament so we can keep up with the demand and accelerate our international expansion.

Rahil HanifFINANCE OFFICER

‘Seeing how many jobs are created via BiD Network by growing and connecting SMEs shows the importance of impact investing.’ Rahil is the finance officer at BiD Network and has been responsible for the financials of the foundation since 2009. He holds a BEc from the Hogeschool InHolland in Amsterdam. He worked as a financial administrator at Abraxas Finance & Accounting and the National Association of First Help Psychologists. Gaining practical experience in accounting for non-profit organisations.

Diane UwitonzeCountry Director Rwanda

Diane Uwitonze has over 9 years of investment and advisory experience gained while working in the private and public sectors. Her latest role before joining BiD Network, was heading the Strategic Investment Department / Private Partnership (PPP) Unit within the Rwanda Development Board which is in charge on negotiating strategic investments on behalf of the Government of Rwanda. Diane is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority and the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda. She is bringing an unmatched network in Rwanda, management, negotiation and quick decision-making qualities to Bid Network.

Derrick TaremwaLEAD INVESTMENT ANALYST UGANDA

Prior to joining BiD Network, Derrick was an associate at Grant Thornton Uganda and was in charge financial advisory engagements as the lead executor.  He has taken lead in the execution of engagements in Business valuations, Financial due diligence, Project Financing, offering investment advice to clients and other advisory functions. His experience also covers operational engagements carried out like Fraud investigations and Transfer Pricing. He brings to BiD a wealth of experience in Financial analysis, financial modelling as well as investment analysis and appraisal. Derrick holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Makerere University and is currently pursuing Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Credential.

Mark MutahiCOUNTRY DIRECTOR UGANDA

Prior to joining Bid Network, Mark served as Managing Director, Uganda for a Global social enterprise and a multi-national carbon finance social enterprise. In both roles, he was responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of business expansion, including operational maturation, business development, setting strategic direction, and building strong local and international partnerships. Prior to that, he spent over a decade in the financial sector in Canada, serving in Wealth Management and Operational roles with Capital One and the Royal Bank of Canada. Mark holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa and a B.A in Economics/Statistics from the University of Alberta, Canada.

Stayce NimusiimaMARKETING AND INNOVATION MANAGER

With an array of experience and knowledge gained working in the micro-finance finance and social innovation sector, Stayce co-designs and manages growth hacking and marcom strategies at BiD Network. She believes that supporting businesses is the most sustainable form of development and is happy to be part of the BiD Network team that puts SMEs at the forefront of their work. Stayce holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Geography and is currently working towards an MBA in Innovation Management.

Saul ItiimaADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT UGANDA

Saul is the administration and office Assistant at the Ugandan Office. He supports the team with their daily errands and keeps the organisation in working order. He comes with various experience working in the education, finance and hospitality sector. Saul holds a Bachelors in Development studies.

Fisha KatuguguMARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT UGANDA

Fisha is passionate about social entrepreneurship because it has the potential to transform Ugandan start-ups and SME’s, especially at the grassroots level. Having gained valuable marketing, organisational and communication experience while working in the corporate and non-profit sector, Fisha will be responsible for building an engaged community of entrepreneurs, partners and investors in addition to supporting marketing communications and operational initiatives at BiD Network. She is enthusiastic about using her skill-set for good by furthering BiD Network’s mission to contribute to the sustainable economic growth of SME’s in East Africa. Fisha holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Media and Technology

Martha MuhairweOPERATIONS ANALYST & ADMIN MANAGER UGANDA

Martha is an operations analyst and administration manager for BiD Network; she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management and is currently pursuing an MBA and an Accountancy Certification. She is responsible for the financial management of the BiD Network Uganda office and also part of the  Financial Analysis team responsible for the entrepreneurial financial sets, to best prepare them for the investors.

Sumayyah Nakimuli SengendoINVESTMENT ANALYST UGANDA

Sumayyah is a dynamic, self-driven, detail focused and astute business professional. Prior to joining BiD Network, she worked in the investment banking industry providing financial and investment advisory services. She brings to BiD Network strong analytical skills through financial analysis of key performance indicators and trends, concept implementation and strategy development. She strongly believes that the foundation of any long-lasting venture in the fast-changing economic development of Uganda and the stability of East Africa’s economy depends on the continuous empowerment of regional SMEs. Sumayyah holds a Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA) majoring in Finance and Accounting from Cyprus International University (Cyprus).Currently, she’s pursuing the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Credential.

Martine Uwase MunezeroINVESTMENT ANALYST RWANDA

Martine is an Investment Analyst Intern at BiD Network, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from The Catholic University of Eastern Africa Nairobi.

She started her career with Vision for a Nation Rwanda an international NGO as an Executive & Finance Assistant and later on became a National Coordination Representative for the NGO’s Program; prior to joining BiD Network she worked for Diageo Africa Business Shared Services Centre Nairobi as a key account controller for French and English speaking markets

Ruud NijsCHAIRMAN BOARD

Ruud Nijs is the chairman of the Board of BiD Network and partner at TheRockGroup (www.therockgroup.biz). They focus on results in mainstreaming sustainability in corporations and organizations, commercializing young ventures and creating solutions for complex societal issues. Ruud has a history in banking (ABN Amro bank and Rabobank). At Rabobank he was the Director for Corporate Social Responsibility, managing ao. the Rabobank Foundation. Nowadays Ruud spends ample time in developing countries on inclusive finance projects.

Chimwemwe de Gaay FortmanBOARD MEMBER

Chimwemwe de Gaay Fortman is a member of the BiD Network Board and has been working in the financial sector since 1995. At Rabobank, the Dutch Development Finance Institution FMO, and the ABN AMRO Bank she has built a solid track record in banking, among others in emerging markets, and including deal origination and execution of complex financings, restructurings and risk management to both small and medium-sized enterprises and large corporates. Currently Chimwemwe is an independent advisor, and board member at the Supervisory Board and Advisory Counsel of the Society of International Development, the Netherlands Chapter. She is particularly committed to impact investment.

Herman SnelderBOARD MEMBER

Herman Snelder is part of the BiD Network Board and owner and managing director of MDF ( www.mdf.nl). MDF is a worldwide company in the area of management and organisation. MDF delivers training, advisory and evaluation services but also implements large projects in the field of education and water. All their services focus on social impact eventually. MDF has 10 offices worldwide, Netherlands, Belgium, Ghana, RD Congo, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia. Herman has joined the organisation in 1989 after 10 years of field work in RD Congo and Rwanda. He became co-owner and director from 2000. In addition to being director he carries out advisory and evaluation missions. MDF adheres to the principles of Rhineland which is based on the principles of trust, craft (wo)manship and Relation with stakeholders.
