The call for business proposals and financiers for the Somali agriculture and food processing sector is now open for registration. This call – an initiative funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and operated by BiD Network and partners – aims to support aspiring entrepreneurs in the Somali agriculture and food processing sector to start, grow and finance their businesses and to encourage cross border investment of diaspora finance.
IFAD, BiD Network and partners are launching a call for proposals for small and medium sized enterprises in the agriculture and food processing sectors in Somalia and Somaliland. This call is meant to attract entrepreneurs in need of finance ranging from USD 20,000 – 200,000 to start or to expand their businesses operations.
Simultaneously, Somali diaspora and international investors are invited to sign up to become a business angel, providing funding and mentorship for businesses in the Somali food and agriculture sector, contributing in a sustainable way to the local economy in Somalia (South-Central and Puntland) and Somaliland. Entrepreneurs are called to join an online community, where they can prepare or upload their business plan documents. Through this group, their business plan will be reviewed by experienced business plan assessors, and entrepreneurs can become eligible for mentoring, training, and investor matchmaking services. A limited matching fund is available to further accelerate the start and growth of businesses.
