SNS Reaal Water Fund
In 2005, SNS REAAL established an investment fund that will invest US$ 50 million in international water and sanitation projects and in small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) that are dedicated to sustainability and innovation.
With regard to the gap between the needs and actual supply of finance in water, the SNS REAAL Water Fund wants to contribute to the needed water investments from the private sector. Herewith we provide incentives and stimulate processes for sustainable development with respect to “people, planet and profit” aspects. Our Water Fund aims to mobilize the required investments from the market by upscaling water projects from sustainability to bankability.
Aqua for All
A4A is the short name for the Aqua for All foundation. From 2002, this foundation intends to create a link between Third World water and sanitation projects, sponsoring and socially responsible entrepreneurship. By acting as a ‘hinge’ between all parties involved, A4A wants to tackle the scarcity of drinking water and sanitary facilities in developing countries in a structural way.
SNS Reaal and Aqua for All
Together SNS Reaal and A4A provide at least 150,000 euros of investment money. The financial support will for a small part be a grant (kick-start money) and the larger part will be a private equity investment or, preferably, a soft loan.
Criteria for Funding
The business proposal of an entrepreneur should at least comply to the following criteria, set by SNS Reaal and A4A:
1 - The minimum investment need is US$100,000
2 - The business clearly contributes substantially to MDG 7 (Ensure environmental sustainability), more specifically: should contribute to more access to clean drinking water or improved sanitation in a developing country.
3 - Clear financial plan and investment plan.
4 - Acceptable risk profile (legislation, regulation, environment, economical)
5 - The business should be sustainable:
a - A maintenance contract is or will be included.
b - There is a need for capacity building/technical assistance.
c - The business plan clearly defines the expected ecological consequences.
d - The business can be upscaled and/or replicated.
e - The business uses Appropriate Technology.

Project OSCaR
Project OSCaR
Project OSCaR (Operation Save Calumpang River) is aimed at the rehabilitation, conservation and protection of the Calumpang River in Batangas City. The river is a catchment for river tributaries reaching as far as Laguna in the north, and Quezon Province in the East, all in the Philippines. The river opens up to the Batangas Bay.
I believe that private sector participation is an important aspect for sustainable development in any country, specifically developing ones like the Philippines.
I am hoping that your organization will be able to help by providing a grant (kickstart) to realize the goals of this project. I believe that given the chance to improve on this business plan, I may soon be able to meet the sustainability requirements of your organization.
I am optimistic that you may soon play a very important role in my vision/mission/aspiration for a micro-watershed rehabilitation thus making clean and safe water available for everybody, especially for the future generation and to be able reach out to the various sector of our society and global community as well, to start this project together.
