Toon van Tuijl Designprijs 2008 started

The new website is online and Dutch designers can now submit their design for products produced in developing countries for the western market or products that improve the standard of living of the poor. SUBMIT DESIGN before September 12 2008

The Toon van Tuijl Design Award stimulates design that contribute to the economic and social development in developing countries.
There are two design categories for the award:

A. products for the western consumer made by a producer in a developing country
B. products that improve the living conditions/quality of life of people with low income in a developing country

Toon van Tuijl

Toon van Tuijl was a committed industrial and furniture designer from Eindhoven. Toon fell victim to an armed robbery and died on July 30th, 2006, in Kenya. For several weeks he had been working there on an assigment for a local furniture producer.

2007 Winners

The awards were presented for the first time at the Dutch Design Awards ceremony on 20 October 2007 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Winner in the A category was Manon Juliette with Feliz!, a carpet made of left-over leather. The carpet was produced in Brazil. Winning design in category B was High Spot, a mobile selling unit. Desingers are Rutger Bonsel, Sietse Cieraad, Imke Schepers and Stephanie Reintjens. This design was developed in Ghana.

The Toon van Tuijl Design award is a joint initiative of Toon van Tuijl's wife Cynthia, NCDO and Dutch Design in Development. NCDO’s Business in Development Programme finances this project.
