Graduated in Rural Development Sociology I decided not to work in the traditional development work "industry" but to set up my own socially responsible business in Peru called Otra Cosa.
With the combination of Vegetarian Restaurant, Voluntary Work Agency, Alternative Tourism Agency and Fair Products Shop I am running a commercial business. But by combining that business with non-profit activities I have become an actor in local development issues.
Examples
- we spend 100 % of our tips on local charity projects
- we send international volunteers to 8 different development projects/organisations nearby
- we offer internship places to young students and deprived teenagers that want to gain work experience in tourism
- 4 of our 5 employees are mothers who raise their children without their husbands.
My Fairmail plan is born out of this practice and wish to combine profit & non-profit and to work directly with the poorer part of the community I live in.
I am a positive minded go-getter that loves managing and taking initiatives. Busy with the start-up of Fairmail, I hope to find usefull contacts through the BiD Network that can help me to give Fairmail a push in the upward direction!
