Gilbert Pangyarihan
architect, chicken house specialist, entrepreneur, violinist, poet, essayist, "graduate" of religion
I'm an architect specializing in chicken house design. I don’t want to compete anymore with those “beautiful” architects in the city. I want to be an agro-industrial architect – an “agritecture” specialist, which is more needed in the countryside. At the moment, I’m concentrating on housing chickens. I'm always on the lookout for ways on how to improve the design of the chicken house – be it layer, breeder or broiler type, either evaporative cooling or natural ventilation – keeping in mind the balance between economy and durability on the one hand and profitability and product quality on the other.
I’m an MBA candidate of Ateneo Graduate School of Business. I didn’t graduate because I lacked the strategy paper. Although I could have fabricated one and graduated just like most of my classmates who needed the MBA for job promotions, I couldn’t deceive myself to attach a title to my name – Master in Business Administration – because I didn’t and still don’t consider myself as such. If I am to be a “master”, I’ll do it a la Frank Sinatra.
I play the violin since eleven years old and I also teach. I’m planning to make violins out of Philippine tropical woods. I write poems which are posted on the PoemHunter website. I also write essays. I’m a two-time winner of essay writing contests sponsored by the United Architects of the Philippines.
Why did I put "graduate" of religion above? I have to indicate this because for all my knowledge and skills, the question you'll probably ask me is: "How come you're still in a rut?" Well, religion ruined the first half of my life. I was lucky to have survived.
