GIS project manager
Ubo Pakes started his professional career at the TNO Institute of Applied Geotechniques in 1990. Here were his first opportunities to use automated systems for the collection, presentation and analysis of data. At his following position at the Ministry of Transport and Public Works he was one of the first Geographic Information System (GIS) users and contributed greatly to the implementation of GIS in day-to-day work processes and policy making documents. These experiences led to his new job where he managed the GIS activities of the rivers department as well as the design and implementation of a GIS application and database for flood forecasting and river management which is now internationally used. At present he is head of the GIS department of Larenstein University of Professional Education, taking care of the day-to-day management of a 7 staff team and being member of the management team of Larenstein Transfer. He is responsible for the acquisition, management, planning and the execution of domestic and international consultancy projects and training.
