Thierry Sanders
Thierry is Director of the BiD Network Foundation
and Founder of the BiD Challenge. The international business plan competition for developing countries.
My career is a blend of development and business, with a dash of IT, carbon markets and finance.
At NCDO (www.ncdo.nl) I set up Dutch Design in Development, the BiD Challenge, the MDG Scan and the Economic Impact Assessment model with Heineken. With the help of Triple Value we brought BOP to the Netherlands. In 2005 I published the world's first Venture Capital and Private Equity Guide for development.
Prior to this I was general manager of EcoSecurities plc the leading Carbon trading & solutions company focussed on developing country carbon projects. I advised several Dutch companies on the financial return of CSR. Worked for Origin (A Dutch-French IT company) setting up joint ventures in Japan. Prior to that with Fair Trade and the ABN Bank.
He studied Agricultural and Development Economics at Imperial College, London.
I strongly beleive that economic growth driven by finance and small and medium sized companies is the key to poverty reduction. The trick is to make this growth massive, pro-poor and sustainable.
I share my life with three great people: Anna, Haiko and Jet.
Remember: Life is too short to do boring things!
