SJS in Uttrakhand, Himalayas, India Supported by SHGW, The Netherlands for promotion of farmer co. We are planning to replicate.

We are planning to set up the producer's companies of small and marginal farmers growing coarse grains. These grains like Amranth, finger millets, faxtail millet, buckwheat etc. are rich in nutrition and could able to provide balance diet to the childern and women.
To start with we have envisaged to organise the producers at one hand and set up the facilities for collection, grading and processing at other hand to produce the ready to eat food.

The Business

What is your product/service?

The company will produce ready to eat breakfast food from coarse grains which is produced by the small and marginal poor farmers. Due to lack of processing facilities they are selling thier produces at very cheap rates.
The companies will set up collection and processing facilities under the ownership of farmers. This year collection and grading alresdy started to studied the fesibility.

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

India as a growing economy have increased urban working forces who are in need of ready to eat food for breakfast and working lunch. In Himalayas there are a lot of coarse grain production which could utilised

How will you make the product/service?

SJS (NGO) will facilitate the services and farmers compnies will produce the grains through member farmers and breakfast cearls (Packed) at the processing units.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

The distribution and sales plan will be finalised with the retail stores companies who have bulck demand of these items.

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

The potwential buyers are restuarant chains, retail stores of food items, tourist routes and most expected schools where a scheme of mid day meal are going on.

Describe your competitors?

The possible competitors are biscuit manufacturer, ready to eat food producers and small sellers who are also the potential buyers of these new items.

New items and qaulity products from a specific geographical aream (Himalayas)

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Processing, value addition and marketing of the products by the farmer themselves is an innovation in the planning, producing ready to eat breakfast cearls rich in nutrition in an innivation in product and facilitation to a business bym a developent organisation is an innovation in activities.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

During this year 10 farmers participated in the process and 100 more are willing to join next year we will have 10000 farmers in 3 years which will ensure the growth of the business.

What specifically makes you and (if relevant) your management team most qualified to build this business?

Our team have good relations and organisational set up with the farmers in Himalayas and we have identified the technologies for processing with technical organisation along with the market linkages for proposed products.

How much time do/will you expect to spend per week in the business?

The team will fully devoted for the business development and facilitating NGO will guide them for 2 days in a week

The proposed business will improve the balance diet intake, sustainable agriculture diversity through business model and provide local employement opprtunities.
