Screening instructions BiD Challenge International 2007
In May 350 professionals from Dutch companies and NGOs such as ING, PUM, NUON, DHV, Share People and Rabobank attended the BiD Challenge 2007 screening intstructions. Right now they are screening all business plans accepted to round 1 of the BiD Challenge International.
The screening instructions were very dynamic. Screeners received information about the BiD Challenge and the online screening process. They also learnt about themselves through an exercise called the Brain Dominance Model explained by VDS Training Consultants, that assisted in developing and giving the instructions. Finally, the screeners practiced screening a business plan in small groups. This led to a lively discussion showing that no two people will have exactly the same opinion on a plans' potential.
The screeners demonstrated they have constructive and relevant feedback to give to entrepreneurs located across the globe. For instance a screener working for ING indicated that an entrepreneur interested in setting up a gardening business in Tanzania could get a competitive edge by using native plants that use less water and better suite the local condition.
80 experienced PUM experts have signed up as screeners for the BiD Challenge and most will also be active as coach. PUM sends senior experts to developing countries for two to three week projects. PUM believes that ensuring a sustainable development of the private sector is the best way to fight poverty. Although mostly of the pre-internet generation they have taken to the online screening method with enthusiasm.
Parallel to the sessions in the Netherlands screening instructions took place in all 7 local satellite countries around the world. Combined 700 professionals were instructed and are now screening plans.
