This business with an eco-friendly concept is aimed to take advantage of the freely available waste-biomass in nature. Self-sustainable processes will convert bio-mass into wood-substitutes and bio-fertilizers for-profits and would involve rural masses and motivate them for setting up micro units and creating jobs & incomes at villages, negating the metro-migration.

The Business

What is your product/service?

ROAD MAP

We will start with setting-up a pilot unit at our workshop itself. This unit will later be used for R&D, Demonstration and Trainings. Once we overcome all the teething troubles and develop the products as per marketable standards, we will gear-up for the medium scale unit, by installing suitable Plant & machines for which the satellite centers based in the villages will supply the processed raw material for us. The raw material will be collected by us from their doorsteps and used after final formulations.

The Setting up of plant & machinery will take 10 months and in the meanwhile the pilot production and networking activities will be taken-up. Henceforth the bulk production can be started immediately after that.

PROCESS:
We shall follow the Composite route and use the Natural Fiber Polymer Composites (NFPC) instead of COMPRESSED MASS for proposed THERMOSET COMPRESSION MOLDING TECHNOLOGY.

The Raw Material Processing will be manually done by the small scale based in villages. Our network partners will be trained first for that. The natural fibers# to be used will be carefully selected on the basis of round the year availability. These collected from satellite centers will then be compounded into appropriate MOLDABLE Formulation** at the main unit before loading into steel Molds of appropriate shapes*.

The other products* through simple manual processes could be easily trained for manufacturing /marketing appropriate items at village level itself.

TARGET GROUPS: Self-Help Groups SHGs, Unemployed, Entrepreneurs, craftsmen, Cottage Industries

RANGE OF PRODUCTS': Beside our main product i.e. Hard Particle Boards, we will develop few regular and bulk items with the help of these network partners in villages. If required the marketable finish could be obtained at main center itself. The regular craftsperson of the villages will be given alternative moldable raw material for developing more durable items and get better prices in return.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

In a traditional country like India, when the actual users and dealers are not aware of the new product and its innovative usage; the marketing in initial phase will be little difficult but manageable in experienced hands.

The cost of a good wood substitute matching property wise and supplied in an easy-to-use state through retail counters will always be compared with the original wood products. We are going to win because the market of wooden boards is already competitive and manufacturers are now working with little profits due to the soaring prices of natural wood as raw materials.
We foresee that the use of bio wastes would always keep our prices down than natural wood.

By using Internet based Commodity Markets, we reach direct to actual buyers. Modern IT infrastructure will help us in creating awareness worldwide and also saving substantially on advertising, which will keep our prices competitive.

The entrepreneurs managing satellite units will get first opportunity to earn profits on selling the Particle Boards. We support them with the new products for local manufacturing to keep demand alive and motivation to buy our boards.

No doubt that this recycling based project will create awareness on environmental issues, new jobs, income and prosperity for many in the villages, as per aim of the project.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

The product is based on recycling of bio-waste and is the substitute of wood, one of the main raw materials for engineering, packing, decorative and many household articles'.

For the collection of bio-waste, we will utilize the idle manpower in villages and motivate local entrepreneurship through local satellite units.

Experience

The sheet metal fabrication unit was established by my father in 1974. My brother (57) and I (47) both have PG diploma in Business Management. If required, this unit can be amalgamated to support the new along with infrastructure and experienced technical staff.

SUN was first conceived in 1986 following a near fatal accident. I realized that my focus should change from business to social welfare activities and that income generation for the poor is, perhaps, the most effective solution for eradication of poverty.

In 1988, I ventured into integrated rural center in a village within the district. The center introduced the concept of the integrated culture of fish, duck and poultry coupled with banana, papaya and green vegetables and created a focus on income generation. The model was popular in the area and was successfully replicated.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

JOBS CREATION AND INCOME GENERATION for local population: We will ensure supplies of the raw material from the remote villages through developed networks of suppliers and will pay cash down for their services.

We will also give them opportunity to become our selling agent for wood boards.

HEALTH & HYGIENE IN VILLAGES: The collection of bio-waste will mean cleanliness in the villages resulting reducing chances of deadly mosquito linked diseases e.g. Malaria, Gastro and brain infections, very common in this area.

New products will be continuously developed motivating people to set up home based units and buy our boards through our suppliers.

CURBING FLEEING TENDENCY OF POPULATION TO THE METROS IN SEARCH OF JOBS: Providing suitable jobs and earning opportunities at village itself by associating themselves with the trades and business opportunities generated by this project
