CONTRACT SERVICE ASSOCIATES will have the core business of Building Design & Facilities Management. This will continue to offer Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance services to clients. It will also be the umbrella company split into three entities:
• CSA Risk Surveyors
• Bauhaus School of the Built Environment
• Designbase Associates.
This three are closely inter-related and each will be complimentary and supportive for the other businesses.

1. CSA Risk Surveyors.
It is difficult to imagine an incident such as the tragic bombing of the US Embassy in Nairobi and the myriad other disasters Kenya has had in the recent past, as having a positive aspect. However, the lessons could help to prevent similar events. This could provide the impetus to develop codes, drive the installation of fire and smoke alarms and purge systems and hone our emergency response procedures, all to protect us from the consequences of disasters in our homes, schools and workplaces. Another positive lesson could come from analysis of the means and methods by which we mobilise to quickly recover life and property from damage.
CSA Risk Surveyors will provide:
Site Investigation- visiting the site to determine existing conditions. Preparation of of a preliminary report identifying applicable fire protection/life safety requirements. This reports will identify some or all of the following:
• Applicable Code/Regulatory requirements
• Required/ Recommended Safety improvements
• Use of existing Safety facilities
• Budgetary construction costs
• Construction Schedules to Complete improvements

2. Bauhaus School of the Built Environment
With globalisation and enhanced quality of lives resulting in the new upsurge in economic development, Kenyans have higher expectations for more refined living in our Built Environments. Be it at home, workplaces, schools, shopping malls or recreational facilities, there is rising need for creative professionals in the Built Environment professionals especially the middle level operatives- who will aesthetically fit out the environments to best suit the informed and sophisticated tastes of users. Bauhaus School of the Built Environment will provide education and training to identify, research and creatively solve problems relative to the function and quality of man's proximate environment. The school will offer courses in architecture, interior design, building and real estate management, landscaping and garden design and facilities management.We have already established a collaborative partnership with Limperts Academy of Design, Dublin, Ireland a leading design college to offer some of their courses in Kenya.
The courses shall be short-term seminars and Certificate and Diploma courses. On enrolment, students will be given training in the latest CADD softwares in the market.

3. Designbase Associates
It is the aim of Designbase Associates to guide Building Owners and small scale investors through the multi-facetted and complex process of designing and erecting Building structures. Designbase Associates will work with clients to interpret ideas and wishes into workable plans for buildings that fit clients sites and budgets, enhancing peoples lifestyles and providing comfortable and safe work environments and homes.
Buildings today are very technical structures and building codes and standards are very high. Designbase will stay upto date on cutting-edge, efficient and environmentally friendly construction materials, as well all the latest building code changes to ensure clients get the best buildings that can be. We shall communicate with the Contractor to help control costs

As a business that is a carry-over from it's predecessor, Greentouch Landscapers, we shall strive to secure clients from quality of work established with our previous clients. We will seek recommendation from such clients and letters of reference. We will also expand the client base by writing letters of introduction to institutions to solicit for business. Other methods will be by word of mouth, networking, flyers and newspaper advertising.

The range of services we have set to offer is in tandem with the new Cities Revitalisation now underway in Kenya. Professionals in this field had previously had a down-turn in business and many had changed professions to survive the times. Our range of services as proposed elsewhere seeks to fill this vacuum albeit with changes in Technology fully in mind.
So that we can remain update with technology we have established partnerships with professional organisations and institutions with which we shall share skills, expertise and technology. This we shall utilise in our services and transmit to our students in our training services.

Having trained as an Architectural Technician at the Jomo Kenyatta College of Agriculture & Technology, Mike has gained extensive experience with leading Architects, Project Managers and Developers in Kenya. At Emms Architects, Mike gained first hand-experience in Architectural Drafting and Design with some high-profile projects like Asmara Hotel in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia, Cameo Plaza, Nairobi. ITA Project Consultants provided further opportunity for the whole Building project process of the Ifo and Dadaab refugee camps of the UNHCR.
Thereafter, he served the National Social Security Fund's Estate Department for ten years where he was involved in the spatial planning, building maintenance and management, property sales and marketing of the Fund's extensive Real Estate portfolio including residential estates: the executive Mountainview Estate. Kitisuru Housing Scheme,Hazina Estate(South "B"), office blocks at View Park Towers,Hazina Towers,Bruce House, Social Security Complexes in Nairobi and Mombasa and the many field offices.
At the Railway Training Institute, Mike ran a Technical Drawing course for Building Construction students preparing for City & Guilds exams of London where he gained valuable skills in education and training in 2000-2001
He then set-up on his own in partnership in the family business, Greentouch Landscapers specialising in Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance- whereby we secured and maintained such clients as Uchumi Supermarkets, KEMRI-CDC, United States International University-Africa, Nairobi Hospital, Bata Shoe Company and JKUAT.

The " Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth Creation and Employment Creation 2003-2007", Kenya's blue-print for Economic Development asserts that if the country is to succeed in the increasingly competitive global market, it must build and maintain a substantially higher quality infrastructure. The strides now underway will only be sustained if high calibre technical personnel are trained equipped with Cutting-edge technology and skills imparted with local conditions in mind yet matching any in the world. I n addition, services offered by professionals in this field need to be in line with world standards,and must not be static but continously dynamic to keep abreast with new trends.
Just a University Hospital will produce highly talented and skilled Doctors and other Health professionals, the CONTRACT SERVICE ASSOCIATES set-up will have a substantial impact on Kenya's Built Environment by providing World class Building Design & Management and Training that will be a catalyst for Infrastructural Development in Kenya. Each of the cluster services will produce a riple effect to spur the growth and development of the others. For example, the research undertaken by the students will be incorporated in the Building Design practise.
Dynamic young professionals produced will be unlikely to let the built Infrastructure to go into decay as has previously been witnessed. The result will be that the Infrastructural Development achieved will be sustainable and maintained. Issues of collapsing buildings, pot-holed roads and poorly maintained buildings will be eliminated.
