BiD Challenge screeners support BiD entrepreneurs with their expertise and help create opportunities in developing countries. They are professionals from our partners and individual professionals with expertise in the area of business plan assesment and developing countries.

All Round 1 business plans are assessed by screeners. Each plan is screened three times by separate professionals. Screeners give feedback to the participants: what are the strong and weak points of the business plan. The entire screening process takes place online.

Screener's profile:

Experience with reading and assessing business proposals;
Proven affinity with developing issues and developing countries;
Specific sector or country expertise
A personal or professional interest in SME development, private sector development and/or ‘Business in Development’.

Screeners are matched with business plans that fall within their field of expertise.

Screener's responsibilities:

Each screener assesses a minimum of 15 Round 1 plans (of about 3 pages)
All screeners need to sign a confidentiality agreement before they get access to the business plans.
Each Dutch based screener attends one of the BiD Challenge screening instructions

Selection & coaching

Business plans are assessed on the basis of the Criteria of the BiD Challenge 2006. In Round 1 by screeners and the Round 1 Jury; in Round 2 by the Jury. Screeners and jury members are experts and professionals that contribute to the succes of the Challenge by providing the BiD entrepreneurs their valuable feedback, insights, experience and personal drive.

Round 1

Between March 20 and April 20, all submitted Round 1 business plans will be screened 3 times by professionals from our partner organisations. The best rated plans will go to the Round 1 Jury. They decide about the top 75 plans that will proceed to Round 2. On April 20^th, the 75 Round 1 winners will be announced and invited to participate in Round 2.

Round 2

After the Round 2 deadline on June 20^th, the Jury will get to work. In teams of 2, they will read and assess all the business plans on the basis of the Criteria. After this assessment they will get together and select 25 finalists on the basis of consensus.

Finalists

All finalists are invited to the Netherlands for the Finalist week, September 23-30. Between September 23 and 27, the jury will interview the 25 finalists: the entrepreneur gets to pitch his/her business plan and the jury will question the entrepreneur.

The jury will select the winners on September 28 and divide the total prize money over the chosen winners (min. award size €5000, max. €25.000). At the Award Event on September 29^th, all prize winners will be announced.

The award event consist of a prize ceremony and a market place where all entrepreneurs get the opportunity to present their plan to our partner organisations and many other interested people, companies, NGOs and potential investors.
