Lace networks
bags and acessories made of recicled plastic and dumped eletronica woven by women in NGO's in Brazil
In Brazil many people engage in social entreperneuships as a solution for poverty, theirs and from others. I live in the Netherlands but came from São Paulo, Brazil and am often impressed by how people sometimes almost without money develop all sorts of products.
Women are very present in these NOG's where they gather to discuss the education of their children or other issues and doing that produce textile work as a spin off of their meeting.
This format is a traditional way of working for women in all cultures: textile, networks, informal work structures and multitasking.
Their products are not saleable because they are done with no knowledge of desing or market. What is interesting in what they make is that it is all recicled material given to them by bussiness, like rest of textile and used plastic bags. The women in Brazil are known for its creativity and capacity of improvisation.
On the other side, computers are becaming a problem for the environment. Technology companies asks the consumers to upgrade hardware and software constantly with the consequence that all the plastic, metal and hazarous parts are throuwn in the nature in Africa, Asia, South America and other developing countries.
My idea is to develop products here in Europe by product developers toghether with these women in Brazil, made of recycled material, mainly of computer parts, old telephones, and eletronica.

The Business
We want to make from recyclables, useful and trendy products. We will develop bags and acessories made of mainly old plastic bags and old hardware / eletronica.
The products will be designed and developed either in Brazil by a designer and in The Netherlands through a institute that deals with recycle products and artists and designers.
The distribution will be made in the Netherlands through this institute (studio hergebruik) and in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The fabrication will use as much as possible, mothers working within non profit institutions made to deal with family and children's education. One example of these institutions would be www.projetoquixote.org.br/ and aprendiz.uol.com.br/
Women in Brazil try to save the planet, as they work for they children. They recycle eletronic waste mainly from the developed world that is sent to the third world.
People buy it because they are nice objects, but doing that they are also saving the planet.
All the process of production envolves the use of networks doing something and 'saving the planet' als 'spinoff'. So, the distribution will be also using networks building up the idea of the products been exclusive and having them, you belong to a 'community' or an identity group.
With my product I want to use the idea that with good design, reusing of resources and collaboration between people in different parts of the world, we can work towards a better word.
The Entrepreneur & Management
I have worked as an artist and designer in the Netherlands since 1993.
