1 year later

In June 2005 AnimalNepal won €5,000 from the BiD Challenge with their business plan "Pet Products for poverty reduction".

In the past year they opened the first pet shop in Nepal and new designs were created for a production line of pet products to be set-up in the coming year.

Opening pet shop

The pet shop of AnimalNepal was opened, the first one in Nepal, featuring a full range of pet-care products and accessories, as well as expert advice and information on pet care. Many enthusiastic customers. However due to the political crisis in Nepal and the unrest and demonstrations in Katmandu, the shop had to close.
Also because it appeared the shop was not the best way to distribute the products. Now and in the future, the distribution of pet products goes via supermarkets and vet clinics.

New designs for pet products

Products were made by small existing producers hiring (day workers) this year and others were imported from the Netherlands.

We have partnered with Dutch Design in Development, they supplied this designer for 6 weeks and donated the airfare ticket for this designer.
Designer Celia Sluijter worked for AnimalNepal to set-up a new collection of pet products meant for export. AnimalNepal is enthusiastic about the designs and will start with the production in the coming year. This will create employment for among others jobless handicraft workers.
