Rabbit Farm

Rabbit meat is very popular dish in Georgian national cuisine. It is distinguished for the following qualities:(1)It is the best dietary product (contains less cholesterol); (2) Actually it's possible to use rabbit for various needs: meat, leather, blood, excrements - organic fertilizer; (3) It doesn't need much effort to care for rabbits; (4) Food can be found in the target region that reduces the self cost of the product. Today, development of rabbit farming is essential due to the dangerous bird flue in Georgia; majority of population killed poultry and practically don’t buy meat of domestic birds because of fear.Rabbit meat is the best alternative for chicken meat. The potential for the national market is very big, because there is the only one rabbit farm in whole Georgia. Georgians are fond of meat product in general, and hence, there is always great demand on meat. Besides, about 20% of population of Georgia according to their religion don't eat pork. Destroying of old soviet economic structures influenced on many economical fields including rabbit breeding in Georgia.Our business plan consists on the rehabilitation of an old destroyed rabbit farm building, foundation of the rabbit farm and to develop the social enterprise. The rabbit farm will also promote to reduce poverty among population of Guria region through the following means: (1) The generation new job places for mentally disabled people and other unemployed villagers(97% of people with mental disability are unemployed); (2)The possibility of new income sources for local farmers, who will provide food for rabbits; (3)Supplying market with the alternate product to the chicken meat.
The Business
It’s notable that we have no competitors in rabbit breeding business in the West Georgia . In the East Georgia there is the only enterprise of this type-Kumisi Rabbit complex.
The sustainability of the plan will be kept through the incomes from different rabbit products (alive rabbit, meat, leather, blood);
Rabbit product of four types will be produced on Rabbit farm:
(1) Alive Rabbit (in average 18 Euro); (2) Rabbit-meat (1 kg=5 euro); (3) Leather (One rabbit leather=2 Euro); (4) Blood (100 ml=1 Euro). While designing the project we were carrying out negotiations with different trade and business organizations. So, our potential clients are:(1) Legal entities — Meat store network firm — Meat shops network “Nikora, Hipermarket “Goodwill" in the capital of Georgia - Tbilisi, markets, meat shops, rural markets, restaurants, hotels, shelters, special houses and Scientific-research Institute “Bakteriophagi", (2)Physical entities —dealers, who will be in charge of distribution of the product; People, who will buy the product in special stores, (3) Scientific Institutes (they use rabbits in medical experiments); (4) Rural markets of Ozurgeti, Kobuleti, Poti, Samtredia, Batumi towns (West Georgia); (5) Restaurants and other food amenities of the West Georgia. (6) Population (they will purchase alive grown rabbits); (7) Private enterprises (Batumi Leather Factory)
Distribution of the product will be realised through the hired distributors; They will work with separate firms (markets, rural markets, stores, etc.) through the sharing them by zone principle. The firms with exclusive contracts, for example, Meat products network “Nikora" will be served by a hired driver and they will be supplied with the product according to the special agenda.
It’s important that in the West Georgia we have not any competitors and small family rabbit farms can't be our potential competitors due to the small production capacity and unorganized business. They don’t possess high processing technologies and hence, their product cannot be competitive. We will develop the network of the distributors of our product in order to reach our customers.
We plan to seek for funds needed for the Rabbit business through the following ways: (1) Funds requested from Bid network-25 000 Euro;
(2) Bank credit —23 000 Euro; (3) Own contribution —7 500 Euro.
80% of funds is necessary for starting up the business, and 20%- for the first year; Incomes of the second year will cover all expenses and we will get profits;
Development
Our business will benefit the employment of local poor population including the mentally disabled people. Also, we will provide the market with ecologically pure product that is especially important today due to the dangerous of the bird flue.
In the first 3 years we will have the following increase: 9000 young rabbits; In 2 years- 12000 young rabbits. In 8 months after the business is started, we will have our own mother rabbits.
Our customers will:
In 3 years-20000 people;
In 4-6 years-40000 people
In 10 years we will spread the business throughout Georgia through the improved processing technologies.
