Evening Breeze

Cool Dreams for a Better Planet

Tourism is one the most promising opportunities for developing regions to prosper. Within the fast growing tourism industry, ecotourism is a rapidly popularising way of spending the holidays (WTO). While tourism provides considerable economic benefits, high levels of energy consumption contribute significantly to local and global environmental damage. To develop a sustainable tourism sector in developing regions, energy use needs to be reduced. Evening Breeze has the solution to save over 50% of energy per room and at the same time create utmost comfort for the guest!

The Business

What is your product/service?

The decrease in energy use is the reason to buy our solution, this directly leads to the two advantages. The first is the ecological advantages, a 40 rooms resort saves 120MWh on energy, equalling 77 tons of CO2 pollution, for which 80.000 compensating trees are needed. The second is the economical advantage a rooms resort saves an annual 25.000 euro!

The initial target market is the Netherlands Antilles. The first installations will be executed at the Sorobon Beach Resort, on the island of Bonaire. Subsequently the focus will be spread to the wider Caribbean, South-America, Africa and South East Asia. With over a million hotel beds in tropical regions and a 7% annual growth, there is a huge potential.
Our primary market is the eco-oriented resorts, because they (and their guests) will value the environmental benefits of our solution, besides the financial gain. The eco-oriented resorts show an astonishing growth annual rate of 20%. We project a 5% market penetration in this sector in 2010, in the off grid eco-resorts we expect a 20% market penetration. We aim to sell our 20.000th unit in 2010.
We plan to establish our assembly and distribution hub in different regions around the globe. With this impulse in the local economy, we create employment and stimulate export. These hubs deliver to out resellers, who will be located all around the equator. Resellers account for sales, installation and service.
We allready see possibilities to leverage our solution to other segments like: (field) hospitals in Africa, military camps or domestic appliances.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

The marketing activities will focus on distributors, customers and users. When the product has reached stable sales we will continue to coordinate the marketing activities. Local marketing activities will be performed in close cooperation with our distributors. Contact is already established with resorts on Bonaire, Curacao and also the wider Caribbean and Africa.

A priceless asset within our team is the excellent network within the eco resorts around the world. From this network we already have close contact with out lead user, the Sorobon Beach resort on the island of Bonaire. We can test our solution with real users in this resort.
We are currently investigating the possibilities to set up an assembly and distribution unit in Bonaire.

Funding for our start-up is found in different areas:
-We will invest our own means
-An investor will be found to support us (first contacts already established)
-Our bank might be willing to provide us some funds
-Subsidies are available to support these kind of projects
-Price money from different contests, like this one and other competitions we allready won.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

Originally born as a plan to reduce the immense energy consumption in tropical tourism, this project has grown into a broader plan which combines ecological and social improvements.

In the production region (the hubs) several activities will stimulate employment and export. Activities performed here are production, assembling and logistics , moreover some administrative work will be performed here. Around a dozen of locals will be employed in these hubs, creating an turn over of a million euros or more per year. For these hubs we plan to cooperate with local entrepreneurs instead of owning our own production and assembling facilities.

The reseller will benefit from the good margins we provide over sales. Moreover the resellers can close service contracts with their customers, which will generate a steady stream of income. Resellers will receive both technical and commercial training and support.

In the resorts Evening Breeze will enable sustainable tourism. It will provide a healthy energy balance and protects the island or coastal region from a huge energy burden. Setting up off grid resorts becomes more attractive. These resorts can be a source of employment, cultural development and material wealth for certain regions.
