Bamboo is a fast growing woody grass and can replace the maximum use of wood. Bamboo is a Poor man's timber and it can be used from root to leaves for different purpose. About 70% of my country Bhutan is covered by forest and government wants to reduce the use of forest. For this we can replace by bamboo for making house, furniture and handicraft products.
Tourists who visit our country go for the handicraft products as a gift. At present, bamboo craftsman produce in small quantity in manually. It consumes lots of time and finished is not that good.
Bamboo is grown in the some part of the country. At present they make small products like baskets, and handicraft products. People who make it are in the remote and find tough to market their products and produce in small quantity. Want to set up a bamboo industrial where it is not far from the raw material and market.
Bhutan is a small and developing country and so far there is no bamboo industrial work taking place.
The Business
At present there is no particular firm dealing in this bamboo business. Most of the products are for the domestic use only. Few products are seen in the handicraft shops mix with other handicraft products like hand weave and wooden products. For the starting I will be employing the craftsman and produce small handicraft products and household bamboo products, which are easy to market. Then open a handicraft Shop that covers only bamboo products in the capital of the country, where population is high and tourist visits are frequent. I will be also opening a branch of handicraft emporium in highly tourist visited area. Other I will be supplying to the established handicraft shop as per the demand.
I see a profitable business as, so far there is no one dealing in bamboo industrial and furniture making out of the modern technology. By using the technology it consumes less time and can produce in large quantity.
Bamboo can be used both by rich and poor, and both in town and village. With the industrial bamboo processing we can construct a house and also decorated the inside house with bamboo products. It can also make house hold products. It is easy for the poor people to purchase the bamboo products. In town they can purchase bamboo furniture and household items and also decorate their home. In a village they can make a mat, construction, and fence, baskets for carring and for storing things. One thing bamboo can be used from roots to the leaves for different propose.
I will mainly target tourist for the small handicraft products and high and middle class for the bamboo furniture. Mainly offices going are my main customer beside tourist. At the same time I will be providing training service to the rural peoples who deal in bamboo works.
Market is the main important in the business. Before I set up the business I will be doing small market research. I see lot of markets of the bamboo products at present that what I heard from the craftsman and few shopkeepers. I will be establishing the manufacturing in an area where it is near to the market as well as to the raw materials. To market the product I will be opening a handicraft Shop in the capital where population is high and there is a high office going peoples. Next I will be opening a branch show room as well as sell to the highly tourist visited area. At the same time I will be meeting the demands of other handicraft shops within the country and supply their demands. I will also provide bamboo training service to the bamboo craftsman.
At a moment I see no competitors as they produce in small quantity at the village level. Most of the products are for the domestic use and can make only in few quantity manually. Handicrafts shop cannot be my competitor as they deals in verities of items not made from bamboo. Most probably the wooden furniture and wooden products maker will be my competitor but the cost of wooden products are so high and not durable comparing to bamboo.
It will be a sole business and will not involve partners in doing the business other then the Bid Challenge help.
I will be allocating in fund in three categories as follows:
1.Purchasing of Land and selecting the location
2.Purchasing of machineries
3.purchasing of raw materials
Beside the Bid Challenge prize money I will be contributing the 20% of the project cost and also other relevant works.
Development
With this project I can employ some peoples who are left without works. At present in the remote areas peoples depend on bamboo as a main source of income face problems in marketing the products. I will be providing them training and once they are back to the village they can make and sell either to me or others. I will also helping them in marketing the products. Once they are familiar with the new products and new technologies they can improve the living standard with the increase in income. In future I will plant bamboo for the project as bamboo is a fast growing. There will be a less impact to the environment as it has impact comparing to wood.

This project will make the private sector development as well as improve the rural living standard. Indirectly it will solve the employment opportunity and also stop rural to urban migrations in the country. Rural people will generate the income with the maximum use of the resource available near by.
