Productive chain with Ashaninkas
The project presents a phase inside an integral development plan of the Ashaninka Communities in Satipo, Junín - Perú.
The project is sustainable in time and compatible with their cultural identity of the Ashaninka Communities in Perú.
The Ashaninkas lives in low sanitary conditions, with poor economic income, maintaining only a subsistence economy.
The program tend to establish an agriculture productive chain; where the production of tropical fruit is integrated with the transformation and the export of products; an then will be possible to successfully obtain a suitable economic flow, for the Ashaninka Community, for all the region and the country.
The zone have diverse micro climates, with suitable parameters to develop planned mangoes plantations, camu camu and passion fruit. Ancestral customs of settlers, the virgin situation of the soil, in relation to the use of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers, makes the zone suitable to establish organic plantations of these fruits.
The project contemplates the to install a cultivation of maracuya, of short time limit; inside a mangos cultivations program that is a long-term cultivation.
All the maracuya that be produced will be bought by an industrial business to produce juices for the export located to 200 kms of the zone of agricultural production. Contract of provision with the industrial business will be signed to establish the chain of provision
Sales in the world of juices made from organic fruits have increased considerably in the last years, a growth of the demand of the order of 20 to 30% annually for these products is anticipated.
Financing is needed to install the cultivation of maracuya
The Business
The business model is that the ashaninkas communities produce mangoes, camucamu, passion fruit and other tropical fruit, they sell the fruit to Industrial to meke pulp or juice and then export; or they make a selection and sell the fruit as "fresh fruit" to export, or sel to the industries to make IQF product.
The profit be generated when the ashaninkas sell the fruit or the industrial o export
The customers are the broker company or industrial in Europe or USA, and they buy product as pulp in drums, or IQF in box and fresh fruit in box
The world market for organic fruits is still small, it represents 9% of the entire fruit market in the world. But, in the last few years, it’s growth rate has increased 25%, the sales volumes are starting to be significant, hoping that for this year the world market would represent around 12,000 million dollars. The main buyers are: United States, with a 44% of the demand; European Union, with 42%; and Japan with 12%. All the markets are growing at rates above 10% annually. We can see that in the period 2000-2003 there was a 30% growth rate in the United Kingdom, 24% for the United States, 20% for France and Japan, 15% for Canada, 13% for the Netherlands, and 12% for Germany. It is estimated that for the year 2010, this market will represent around 50, 000 million dollars. In Peru there are 5 companies that have the necessary industrial infrastructure to produce fruit pulp; out of all these, only one company has it’s industrial plants in Lima and in La Merced, all the others have their infrastructure in the Northern part of the country, and we want to make a chain with tis company.
No, we don't have a business partners
At the moment we start to development a nursury seed to mangoes and camu camu
Development
We can analyze the project under the following aspects:
· The opportunity and convenience of implementing the project when the demand of organical fruits and derived organic products is growing.
· The project will have a positive impact on the environment when growing organic fruits.
· The project will improve native farmer’s quality of life and the conditions for life when offering them an additional and viable alternative for increasing their income.
· The project will give the opportunity to the native population to maintain a project in the time with their own management.
· The project will give the ashanikas an opportunity for receiving capacitation on the management of organized organic cultivations.
· The effectiveness of the project is measurable in time.
The main social demands of the local population are related with the education and/or capacitation of the native ashanikas for the production and commercialization of agro organical products and for the management of a storing center so that they can obtain good results.
The fact of not having a viable alternative of production that results in better economic benefits for the native farmers has caused a lack of attention of their health needs, education, amongst other things, that has given place for the growth of prohibited products as an alternative for living.
A training program and an opportunity to interchange different experiences in the management of crops will be created as well as a special manual, adapted to their reality for its diffusion, for what visits will be programmed to zones where similar experiences have been present.
