The Business

What is your product/service?

ABS will work on PPP models like BOT, BOOT etc with the urban local bodies(ULB) as private player and bring in financial investment and technical support for ULBs. Revenue generated from profit of sale of treated water shall be shared with the ULB based on type of contract. ABS will also provide consultancy and turnkey services for design/installation of plant to institutions. ABS will also sell precast modular systems at household/institutions.

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

With crisis of fresh water specifically in heavy populated countries like India, waste recycling and reuse is need of the hour. We offer eco friendly tailor made solution of wastewater treatment.

How will you make the product/service?

We will provide complete design, build and maintainance service of wastewater treatment at municipal, institutional and household level.
ABS will invest thorugh PPP models like DBOT, DBOOT etc with the urban local bodies(ULB) and work on turnkey basis with institutions and households. The portfolio of projects will be balanced, such that a part of income of turnkey model will be used as investment capital for PPP model.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

We are associated with ULBs in India for similar works. Moreover we will utilize NGO networks who are working with ULBs through tested and sustained partnerships. We will first introduce the concept to Urban Development Department of the concerned states which can help us in direct propagation of the system to the ULBs. For general market at household level, we would utilize advertisements, radio and web site for marketing and communications.

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

Small towns municpalities, hospitals and institutions, education institutes, hotels and households are main markets. In India there are about 410 class-2 town generating 2696MLD waste water (untreated). Moreover there are 3585 class-3 and below towns generating ample waste water daily. Hence there is a huge market for waste water treatment services.

Describe your competitors?

Currenlty, most of the private player offer consultancy services for traditional standard treatment plants . There are 4-5 NGOs and a private company working on DEWATS technology. They work either on subsidy or consultancy projects. None of them offer PPP model to municpality. hence we offer unique partnership with noncoventional technology.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

PPP model reduces financial burden on resource poor municipalities. Arrangement of turnkey projects offsets the investment capital in PPP models. A new eco friendly and simple technology would easily accepted

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Use of PPP models like D& B, DBOT, DBOOT for small scale projects for first time in India. innovative revenue generating streams, accelerating environment conservation through enterprise and ecofriendly technology.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

Once the brand name is established, we will offer franchise to scale up the business in other parts of the country and abroad too.

Describe the entrepreneur & management

I am a Technocrat (B.Tech in Construction Technology) & worked for construction and environment projects. I have implemented a pilot DEWATS plants in Kadi Town in Gujarat with support of World Bank, India & have carried out research and development of various eco-friendly technologies for low cost housing. I work as a partner in consultancy firm working in Water-Sanitation, Urban Infrastructure and Disaster Management.

What specifically makes you and (if relevant) your management team most qualified to build this business?

I have a multi disciplinary team comprising of people from engineering, planning, finance, marketing and social sectors. Currently my consultancy organization includes people from majority of all these sectors. I shall take their support for developing the project. I shall lead the project with one of my current partner and employ the remaining as per need.

How much time do/will you expect to spend per week in the business?

Atleast 35 hrs per week for initial two years

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

reduce pollution of water bodies locally.
It will improve envirnmental conditions of houses located near water boides which are regulary polluted.
For every 1000 litre of waste water treated through this system, it will reduce 143 kg of GHG (CO2 Equivalent) emission due to saving in electricity. the project will treat a total of 123million litres in span of 2 years and reduce 17500 Metric Tonnes of GHG gas.
