Personal story of an entrepreneur

ING interviewed Franklin Omondi, entrepreneur from Kenya (2009). Franklin Omondi was coached by Maarten Prins, working at ING.

Published in staff magazine ING Bank, July 2009:

Name: Frank Omondi
Location: Kasigau, Kenya
Company: Finch Travels Limited
Started in: February 2004
Size: five employees

When our lodges are ready in October our guests will be able just sit back and watch the elephants. We’ll be able to accommodate 12 guests, in a private park measuring 52,000 acres. This land belongs to the community of Kasigau, but until now the people had no means to earn income from the wildlife around them other than by killing the animals. Now I’m showing them that there is another way. Our 2,500 shareholders and most of the construction workers are from the local community. With the proceeds we are helping the community grow their own vegetables and improve their schools. We get so much support from abroad, it’s amazing. BiD Network put us in contact with Maarten Prins of ING. He assisted me with my business plan. Recently, I even entered the final of the BiD Challenge, a big competition for the best business plan. It’s a positive story, and that’s what people are looking for right now.
