WTO Rules Against EU Sugar Aid in Victory for Brazil (Update5)
Aug. 4 (Bloomberg) -- The World Trade Organization ruled that $1.4 billion of subsidized European Union sugar exports are illegal, handing Brazil a second victory in two months in its campaign against western support for farmers. WTO arbitrators supported claims by Brazil, Australia and Thailand that aid to EU producers including Germany's Suedzucker AG and U.K.-based Tate & Lyle Plc distorts world prices, Brazilian Agriculture Minister Roberto Rodrigues said.
