The Business

What is your product/service?

I am currently dealing in organic hen eggs and turkey eggs. After expansion of this business we shall sale dressed chicken and dressed turkey to our clients. The eggs are sold in supermarkets in a 6 pack trays.

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

The customers are ready to invest in our products for good health and delicacy compared to convention products. The demand is growing daily and we can not satisfy it at the moment because of limited capacity.

How will you make the product/service?

The eggs will be packed in 6-pack trays for the hens and turkey eggs. When we start selling meat they will be dressed and packed for the supermarkets and for hotels and restaurants bulk orders will be supplied in containers or refrigerated vans depending on orders placed.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

Presently my products are in the supermarkets and word of mouth has increased the awareness and the customers are increasing. To promote the products further I will use newspapers, fliers, posters and audio and video advertising. Billboards will also be considered when competition increases. I will reach my customers by distributing my products to the markets, hotels, restaurants using a delivering van.

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

I sale my products to supermarkets i.e. Shoprite & Checkers and Nakumatt Oasis which are found in Kampala city. I also supply to three supermarkets in Entebbe i.e. Quicksaver, Pearl and Upland supermarkets. The market is growing with people prefering organic products and my clients are the middle class those who work within Kampala city and Entebbe town.

Describe your competitors?

My competitors keeps coming up mainly small scale farmers but many have failed to keep up the standard of breeding organic free-range poultry. Other commercial competitors are engaged in conventional poultry farming so they do not affect my market.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

I am committed to producing high quality organic products and have the passion for it. This is critical because organic farming is healthier but requires more effort.

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Many farmers are non-organic because it yields in bulk thus quick turnover. Conversely, organic farming needs a lot of patience and commitment, e.g. my hens takes up to six months before they start laying eggs. They don't lay during hatching season. They feed on vegetation for natural vitamins. The taste and nutrition value of my products is second to none. The tray packaging of eggs is unique, convenient and affordable to all classes of people.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

I intend to expand the farm by buying 10 acreas, increase hens, turkeys and plant maize on the farm thus increase productivity levels; branding and advertising to increase in the market share; cut water costs by pumping water from underground; installing a solar lighting system to reduce electricity costs. To decrease feeding costs by purchasing feeds mill on the farm. Once these are in place growth of this business will be imminent.

We are motivated and encouraged by our customers total interest in our products. This makes us work hard and we keep the standards of our products high. We have the relevant knowledge and skills to build this business to a success.
