COARM Kenya (Centre for Organic Agricultural Research and Marketing)
Coarm Kenya is a community based organization dealing in sustainable agriculture (Organic farming) as well as marketing certified organic farm produce.
Coarm Kenya was founded by Michael Waweru Muchiri in November 2006. The five months of founding members were being recruited to join Coarm. Members were contributing to purchase their own asset (1/4 Acre demonstration farm) during the year of Establishment as from March 2007. There was a looming drought that prevented the organization from making any profit.
Coarm Kenya Currently is a community-based organization formed to work for “Income Generating”. It is registered with ministry of social service to deal in sustainable Agriculture “Organic farming” which will contribute to poverty alleviation and food security. The organization is working with groups of small scale farmers whose farm produce are certified by a firm called Encert an example of produce grown is vegetable, fruits and cereals. People who are health conscious are demanding organic food as it eliminates most of the diseases. This practices of promoting sustainable farming have a positive impact on environment which will heal natural ecosystem that now have poor soil and problems with erosion due to excessive deforestation and poisonous chemicals.
Coarm Kenya is seeking for funds through micro-finance, bank, donor, investors partners and well-wishers for a consistency supply and sustainability. The fund can be in form of grants or loan payable in form of materials cash or consultancy “see modified documents in this site.
The loan required is approximately US$ 245,256 (Ksh 19,129,968) of which payment will spread in 5 years.

(b) Centre for Organic Agriculture Research and Marketing (COARM KENYA) founded by Michael Waweru Muchiri in year 2006. Coarm Kenya is currently a community based organization registered with the ministry of Social Services to deal in sustainable Agriculture (Organic farming) which will contribute to poverty alleviation and food security. Coarm is working with group of small scale farmers whose farm produce are certified by a firm called Encert. Coarm members sell the organic produce to Food Network, Bridge organic Health Restaurant and have stall at City park market Nairobi where they have direct sales.
2 (a) Coarm Kenya members grow certified organic farm produce namely. Amaranth, Beetroot, Butternut, Capsicums, Corianders, Cowpeas, Egg plants, Leek Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Turnips, Beans, cucumber, Kales Maize peppers, Pumpkins, Tomatoes, Water melons.
We are currently appointed to supply organic products to Food Network East Africa and Bridges Organic Health Restaurant.
We also have direct sales at Coarm’s stalls at City Park Market in Nairobi. For market consistency supply Coarm need to train more members in organic farming.
(b) Our customers need safe, healthy sustainable produced food, a reliable services with a consistence supply. This can only be satisfied by having irrigation water, means of transport and finance for supporting farmers as a revolving fund.
(c) Coarm members farms are ploughed ad the soil is well fed with compost manure or organic fertilizer. Seeds are sown or seedlings are planted. The plants are sprayed with (FPE) Fermented Plants Extract for either to feed the plant or for pesticide. Then, we do the weeding either by hands or hoeing.
When the plant is matured, it is harvested the produce is sorted according to the grade, washed and packed.
The produces are transported to the Coarm (K) stall at City Park market Nairobi for direct sales, storage and supply.
(d) Nairobi is a home to approximately 3 million people half of whom fall within our target. Nairobi job rate is climbing at 15% each year.
When the produce gets to the stalls we display them attractively for customers to select of their favourite. For the products to be supplied are packed and transported in hired pickup or minbus to Food Network East Africa and the rest to Bridge Organic Health Restaurant and Kalimoni green.
(e) The organic products currently are consumed by people who are conscious of health. The most prominent age bracket who consume organic food is 35 years and over.
The consumption of organic food is also mostly confined to literate consumers who are aware of the current environmental issues. There is however an effort which will be made to expand the consumption of organic food to make it mainstream. This will be made through starting organic food joints in the major towns to make it accessible to most Kenyans consumers.
(f) Coarm Kenya is the only organic business located in City park market Nairobi stalls. Non- organic farm produce are sold from the rest of the stalls. However there are other organic business operation in capital city centre and Town such us Meru and Thika that compete with Coarm (K) to supply organic farm produce. Those organization are described below.
Gakuri :- This firm is very far from the supplying point sometimes the produce will get to market late and spoiled.
Kagaa
This is also another firm supplies 25% of what the market requires.
(g) The organic farming as a business is unique. Its members of the organization establish themselves. First they will be suppliers and own a supermarket due to the fact that it is being managed by the producers.
(h) The organization has the following objectives:- to improve small scale holder organic farmers incomes through providing market access to hotels, restaurant, green grocers, super markets and other outlets have difficulty in accessing the organization shall also offer education and training on organic product: handling and management
Solicit for funds from Donors and well-wishers to enable the organization to disseminate the use of the organic farming.
i) Organization vision is to see a situation whereby:-
The local community is empowered economically by having access to water for irrigation and livestock.
• That the standard of living of the local community has risen
• That food output is higher and thus no more famine and therefore no more famine relieve food.
• That the local community has now access to services such as clean water
• That more youth are employed
• That the environment has taken care and therefore no soil depletion and erosion.
4 (a) Currently the organization has 6 staff Members who are acting as Directors namely:-

We have a shortage of 7 staffs who are supposed to be in the central unit committee. However there is an arrangement of selecting them from those who will be certified next year from the organization two groups Coarm & Nyakairu Mwega groups.
b) The organization history file for career, training and records of employee reviews. 13 members of Coarm (k) have undergone training in organic farming. The chairman and co-ordinator of the organization has undergone in (a) marketing (b) (ICS) Internal Control System . inorder to qualify in the business we need to send more member for training, workshop and seminars.
c) Normally the central unit committee composed of seven Directors meets every month to discuss issues concerning the organization other meetings are held every month by the sub committees of the four respective groups. General meeting is also held every year.
5. The disease such as cancer, dysentery, Typhoid, Malaria and others a has been eliminated through Coarm(k) effort. There will be an increase of employment within the community. More people in the community will be trained and educated on better farming method mostly in the use of organic farming. The local will also have access of drinking, irrigation water. The community has been educated in HIV/AIDS issues. The community will be healthy by eating safe food environmental conservation by encouraging the local community in the use of environmental friendly farming methods and nutritional requirement.
