The Business
Our resort combines eco tourism and local economic development with environmental consciousness. We initiate local production of solar boilers and fruit and vegetables. We arrange necessary training for the people involved. The resort has solar powered electricity, uses its own water supply and is build with locally available materials. We offer tourists a location where they can experience Uganda's nature and wildlife in the nearby NP.
A mid-class eco tourist accommodation.
Offer tourists a nature friendly ambience.
Employment for local inhabitants.
Stimulate environmental consciousness by information and training.
Facilitate NGO activities.
A small scale resort for eco tourism based on local participation.
Stimulate local production of goods that will be needed for the resort. Production based on the use of sustainable energy and environmental friendly production.
Facilitate training programs and informative meetings for local staff and inhabitants.
A location with all necessary facilities for activities organised by NGO's.
We offer a perfectly suited location for tourists who want to stay for a longer period. We offer visits to activities nearby (game drive, chimp tracking, falls). We reach our customers in cooperation with other resorts, travel agencies and publicity.
We offer NGO's the necessary facilities for meetings and training. The resort is well positioned for NGO's active in Uganda. We inform NGO's by mailing/direct contact about our accommodation.
Our market will be (mainly Western) tourists (budget and middle class) who are not only interested in the wildlife of Uganda but also want to experience local traditions and are interested in local craftsmanship.
Growing wealth in the region means that regional tourism is also a market we aim at.
In the north of Uganda hundreds of NGO's are active. They organize activities, meetings, training and are in need of locations.
In the area there are three high class and a mid class resort and there is one backpacker accommodation. Most of these accommodations are situated inside the National Park. Their customers mainly stay there for a game drive and a visit to the falls.
Only one of the resorts uses solar heaters and is environmentally friendly based. None of them provide specific facilities for NGO's.
We offer a resort that invites to stay for a longer period (no park fee required).
We specifically aim for the use of sustainable energy.
The resort offers good comfort for tourists for a relatively low price.
We use environmentally friendly solar energy and water supply.
The local involvement from the start (we have two locals involved from the start). All materials for the construction and later on the goods needed for the resort will be purchased in the region.
We offer specific facilities for NGO's, like a conference room and electronic equipment (copier, computers, etc.)
Tourists can meet local inhabitants and visit their initiatives.
Tourism in Uganda is still a growing market and also regional tourism is starting to develop.
We have close contacts with two resorts in other areas of Uganda which are interested in working together with us. This makes it possible to offer tourists round trips through Uganda's most beautiful areas.
NGO's and other organizations are more and more in need of affordable facilities for training staff and local inhabitants.
The Entrepreneur & Management
The originators (Aristide Weitenberg and IJsbrand Kingma) have travelled to Uganda for several times during the last years. We have had contact with several organisations and (local) authorities regarding the resort. We both work in social institutions and are preparing this project the last three years.
IJsbrand has logistical experience and rebuilt houses in Kosovo, Aristide has a journalistic background.
We have worked together intensively in the past and are friends for more then ten years. We both have different qualities and know how, share the same ideas and form a great team.
We are both able to make and continue good contacts with the local inhabitants and district councilors. We are familiar with the Ugandan mentality. We are able to improvise and react on unexpected situations and developments which are common in Uganda
We will emigrate to Uganda and live next to the resort. The first years the work will take most of our time (which is more than full time).
Development
We provide steady jobs for at least thirty people. This means a serious boost for local economy, which enables families to send their children to school.
By buying our goods locally, we stimulate ecological production of fruit and vegetables and the building of solar boilers.
By using solar energy and our own well, we can also provide the neighbouring residents with sustainable electricity and water. In the present situation they lack both.
