BiD Network seeks a webmaster for support and maintenance of our community website and other online services.

The BiD Network Foundation operates the world’s largest international investor matchmaking and business plan competition for SMEs in developing countries. It does this online focussed on emerging markets through its 24,000+ member community www.bidnetwork.org and with seven national competitions in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The website is both a transaction platform and online community. It is the key asset of the Foundation.

About the job:

BiD Network seeks a webmaster responsible for the overall maintenance and control of the community website, and resolving support requests from its members and our staff. Also we would like our webmaster to closely cooperate with our web development team in helping to create, manage and support the web applications that interact with the community website. These applications are developed in-house in our office in Amsterdam.

We are currently creating a workflow system to manage the business plan assessment (based on Ruby on Rails), and a Management Information System (MIS). Future projects may include integration of offline forms to submit new business plans via email or low bandwidth internet connections. Meanwhile we are developing a strategy to build an auction system where investors can bid to invest in our businesses.

The community website itself is based on PHP, Smarty and wiki, and is built and maintained by Mediamatic Lab.

Tasks:

  • Improve the community, improve interaction, assist members and staff in the use of the online services, assist in cross-media campaigns & mailings (50%)
  • Manage the bidnetwork.org online community with our supplier Mediamatic Lab (20%)
  • Support web applications development that interface with our community or other online services (20%)
  • All of the BiD Network employees also spend a few hours a week assessing new business plans from entrepreneurs worldwide (10%).

Know-how:

  • HBO or WO level of education
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing web sites
  • Web: HTML, CSS, Javascript, W3C standards
  • Some experience in object oriented programming for the web using, preferably: Ruby on Rails, PHP/Smarty or Java
  • Database: MySQL, standard database reporting tools, MIS/CRM experience
  • Servers: Linux, Windows
  • Languages: English (preferably also Dutch & Spanish)
