The present project of apicultural farming and rural development is based on the apiculture extension in the rural area called POUMA, located in littoral region in Caeroon.
the plan is to produce honey whicht is a most appreciated nutrient and a natural source of sugar. the production and transformation of sub-product honey is also our target. for that this project has 2 steps: production of forest honey and gardenig; then apiculture training.

The Business

What is your product/service?

the main product here is honey and its by-products. the second products (forecast) are flowers and fruits.

-Honey: people kwon honey as medicine, for thousands of years humans in many other cultures have been using honey in the medical porposes.
BY-PRODUCTS:
- Royal jelly;For centuries, fresh royal jelly has been used as a all natural energy boost and alternative medicine.
-Propolis,
-Bee pollen,
-Beeswax

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

As far as nutrition goes customer need is HEALTH and well been
-propolis is a miracle substance designed to fight off bacteria and infection.
-bee pollen is so rich in nutrients
-beeswax is used to candles

How will you make the product/service?

Apart of flowers that will be planted by humans, all other process is a bees job, then apiculturist just have to harvest, to extract and packaging.
-Bee pollen is collected on the legs of honey bees as they pollinate flowers. They then combine this with their own secretions that they use as a major food source.
-To bees, propolis is a miracle substance designed to fight off bacteria and infection, this can provide many benefits to humans.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

honey and its by-products will sell in small contener of 0.5kg and 1kg.
we will made a marketing strategy on quality and low price. Honey is used as an energy-rich food

to reach our customers we will use 2 distibution channels.
-direct distribution which consist to place our products in the shops, supermarkets, bakeries. we also plan to build a showshop.
-indirect distribution which consist to sale our products for other distributors.

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

we will sell to distributors, semi-distributors, shops, bakeries, bevery, and individuals. our market is more than 300 millions peoplein the central africa(cameroon, congo, gabon, equatorial guinea,...), and nigeria in which demand is very high in honey, and they always come in cameroon to collect and buy honey and its by-products.

Describe your competitors?

up to now there is not a realy competition on honey market in cameroon, no any honey company in cameroon. people realy injoy it, but they are refracted because of the unknowned origin and low quality.
anyaways, only about 4 common initiative groups and associations in cameroun are well establish, but the quantities are very very low. less than 900tons honey/year. when our objectif is about 600 tons honey/year.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

the difference is on first the established company in cameroon, combination of beekeeping and gardening, also the extension beekeeping activity can give opportunity of self employment to more than 3000 people.

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Beekeeping is an ancient and well-established activity in Cameroonian forest and savannah communities. Beekeeping with gardening has an important ecological aspect as a pollinator and environmental aspect being one of the major Non
Timber Forest Products in the forest areas of Cameroon, as sustainable beekeeping reinforces forestation, good forest management and provides an alternative livelihood to activities such as hunting.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

the growth of the business will be ensure by our training program to made extension of the activity, training more than 1000 people /year, we will train about 3000 apiculturists and expect to have at list 1500 established professional apiculturists whom will become our suppliers in natural honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, propolis and wax for our transformation, packaging, and distribution. this in additional to our 1000 bees hives production.

The aforementioned qualities, help in the prodution of high quality products and favours competitiveness in the market thereby gives way to the best sales.

How much time do/will you expect to spend per week in the business?

about 40 hours per week. at list 7 hours betwen monday and friday, less than 4 on saturday.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

The Highlands team of SNV Cameroon, whilst working with the Western Highlands Conservation Network (WHINCONET) on a 3 year capacity building exercise, identified the honey sector as a potential value chain for sustainable development.Many business are diversifying- such as creams, candles, ointments, etc - up to 15 products derived form honey and bees have been identified. this improve the local living standard for at least 10 bee hives/trainee.

Honey for live

bees are very important in our environment, the only labourers that not ask salaries for thier processing job. to create a manufacturing honey business is to use biodiversity for increase farmer income, and to create many employment for averyone. this will give opportunity to more than 2000 people to be an employer who will not have a salary charge.
