The Business

What is your product/service?

The product is:
1-Ready-to-plant seeds of flowers and other garden plants, already packaged in recommended quantities.
2-horticultural services (on hire) to new layouts and residences.

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

Our products satisfy the problem of where to get choice flowers to start a flower garden. Our services satisfy the lack of skill and time by home and office owners to beautify their surroundings with flowers.

How will you make the product/service?

-The product:Seeds collected would be peeled from their shelves, dried and preserved in safe conditions, then packeted for sale.
-The services:We would train and own agents who could go out to provide services like preparing garden lawns, planting and maintainance of gardens as the case may be. clients who need permanent services pay a monthly fee ,so we make available our agents whom we supervise.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

Marketing strategy: we would open depots to sell our products.Advertisement would also be highly made use of.
Distribution strategy: in addition to depots we would periodically use caravans to meet our clients and distribute. we will also distribute through retailers, wholesalers and importers.

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

We target home owners, offices, boulevards and other such layouts whose custodians need their surrounding to be beautified with flowers; also owners of gardens and premises who need someone to take professional care of these gardens or surrounding.

Describe your competitors?

In Cameroon our only competitors are local nursers of flowers who supply nursed flowers and not seeds. Thus there are hardly any competitors for processed garden seeds.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

Our competitors are limited by the non-portable nature of nursed flowers as compared to packaged flower seeds. They are much more unreliable as they are mostly illiterate school dropouts.

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Our business is innovative in the sense that it would provide a reliable, neat and modern option for dealing with gardens and other horticultural needs. such is unprecedented in Cameroon.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

Expanding to other neghbouring countreis, exporting garden seeds out of the country, making partnership with depots of other agricultural prodcts to sell our products. Advertisement will also be broadened.

The Entrepreneur & Management

Describe the entrepreneur & management

The entrepreneur is a horticulturist at the Savanna Botanical Gardens, Bafut, Bamenda, Cameroon founded by late professor Ngwa Che Francis. My experience in this respect will be engaged in the business.I also have a network of roadside flower nursers who could be engaged to our benefit.

What specifically makes you and (if relevant) your management team most qualified to build this business?

Being the brain father of the business, and having had relevant experience in horticulture at the Savannah Botanical Gardens, Bafut, Bamend-Cameroon, is enough to tally with my high enthusiasm so as to enable me to manage my team (who have similar experience and interest like me) and push this business dream to real practical success.

How much time do/will you expect to spend per week in the business?

Each week is going to wallop about 48 hours of my effective time on the business. This would be shared between personnel management and the main job- managing the day-to-day running of the company.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

Environmentally, economically and socially, the local living standards will improve as such: green and neat surroundings would purify the air, bettering the environment. Also, the venture will generate some income by direct employment and self employment of fresh-seed farmers and of product retailers. These would both tend to uplift the social standards of the locals as would be observed in their health, dressing and general comportment.
