Emerging Markets in Emerging Markets
"Emerging markets in Emerging Markets"
Emerging markets are home to more than 4 billion people. While many of these people live in relative poverty, together they have a purchasing power of around 5 trillion, according to the report “The Next 4 billion: Market size and strategy at the base of the Pyramid" by the IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, and World Resources Institute. SMEs play an important role in most emerging markets, by providing products, services and employment opportunities.
This panel discussion is about how SMEs are being engaged in global value chains in a variety of sectors, ranging from agriculture and energy to ICT/telecoms and microinsurance. The seminar will discuss innovative SME sectors in Emerging Markets, and how these companies can help meet the large demand for goods and services in their home markets.
