Many of the projects submitted to BiD Network are the fruit of several years of research and development, and hence have a lot of sensitive information. Through Trust Settings the user establishes the level of visibility for the information submitted in this website.
Trust Settings Options
All content (articles, business plans, images, Word documents, etc) that you add to the website is owned by the person who adds the content to the website. You decide who can view, make comments, links and edit the content you add to the website.
Default Settings
When new content is created on the website the default settings are:
| Action | Who |
|---|---|
| View | Everybody |
| Comment | Members |
| Link to content | Members |
| Edit | Me |
*Note, there is one important exception: All attachments except for pictures Documents attached as "Business Documents" and "CV" to Applications are set to be visible to me. They are visible only to you and the BiD Network assessment team by default.
Groups
The audience is divided in five standard groups:
- Everybody: all visitors of the website, including people who have not (yet) registered. This is the default setting for all new content on the website!
- Members: all people who have registered an account on the BiD Network website, and are logged in with this account
- Known people: Members of the BiD Network website that you have added to your contacts as a person you know *
- Friends: Members of the BiD Network website that you have added to your contacts as a friend *
- Me: No one but you, the owner of the document and BiD Network assessment staff *
*You can change the relationship with other members of the BiD Network website in Your Contacts page.
Check and change the Trust Settings
Go to your plan application page (or any other page you have created). Make sure that you are logged in.
Changing the Trust Settings for a page
On all pages that you have created there is an "Edit" button if you are logged in:
After the Edit screen opens, you will find on the top of the window a new red menu bar. In this menu you see the current Trust Setting, and a link to change it.
After you click the link with the current Trust Setting for the page, a new window opens where you can change them.
Click on Save when your done.
Changing the Trust Setting for attachments
To change the Trust Settings for documents attached to a page, like a CV or Business Plan, make sure that you are logged in and click the Edit this page button on the page where the document is attached.
Underneath the name of the attachment you see who currently can view the document, and a link is provided to change the visibility (Trust Setting):

After clicking on the link a small menu appears, where you can change the level of visibility you want for your page: everybody, members, friends, people I know, or me

Click on Save this page if you made any changes.
*Note: Attachments have their own Trust Settings. If you delete a page which has documents attached to it, like for instance a CV attached to your profile, the attached document is not automatically deleted!
Delete your CV
To make your CV not longer findable:
- Edit your profile page
- Set the Trust Setting for your CV to "me"
- Delete your CV
- Save the page
Recommendations
Your plan application
If you wish your project to be visible for potential investors, it is recommended that you leave your plan application (the online page) visible to everybody.
In most cases, entrepreneurs describe their proposition in short here and do not yet reveal confidential information. You can obviously decide otherwise, but then be aware that investors or other relevant people or organisations will not be able to see the plan.
Full business plan documents
For the full business plan documents that you upload (attach) to your plan application, we highly recommend that you leave the trust settings to 'me' in order to protect your most confidential information. In this way, nobody, except for yourself and the BiD Network assessment team have access to these documents.
