RUSALT plans to scale up production of salt (NaCl) using environmental friendly technology by solar energy for local and export market.
Salt production creates alternative jobs to women and men during dry season albeit waiting for rains to cultivate. Proceeds from activities are levied by local and central governments. Product is needed as an ingredient for food tasting, a preservative, medication,comodity and industrial use as a raw material.

What customer need/problem do your products/services satisfy?

Salt is an ingredient for food tasting, a preservative, medication,comodity and industrial use.5kg per capita
Actual and projected production of salt in Tanzania reveals a deficit of 314,000 Metric Tonnes.

How will you make the product/service?

Salt deposits are of volcanic origin, deeply seated brine springs at the depth between 200-250 metres.Hydrogeological studies confirm abundantly stable deposits. The deeper the source the higher the density; the rich the production.
Prespitates occur at 24.5Be.after meteoric water removal by a heating agent like vacuum,woodfuel and solar evaporation.
Brine efficiency at 200m depth is 17Be. 100m3 of efficient brine yields, 10 MT of salt.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

Marketing strategy aims at selling/marketing all annual produced salt capitalizing the EPZ facility

Nominal packaging from common consumer affrodables and for user friendly handling will be used for conducive outreach via existing transport infrastructure

Appointed agents will facilitate product advertisement ,access and distribution

Advertising through multifacetted media and corporate social responsibility to facilitate the strategy

To whom are you selling, what is your market?

Culinary salt users are consumers of our product:women/men and their children in rural and urban areas. Their geographical coverage is our primary market. Pastoralists are our basic rural industrial consumers in curing their animals skins and hide. All manufacturing industries use salt at one or many points of their production line.Salt has had been a medium of exchange. In the tradition it assumed the role of a common currency and user friendly

Describe your competitors?

Coarse salts are available in most parts of Tanzania. Methods of how salts are retrieved are inefficient;some are obtained from ashes of banana leaves/reeds others are scooped from saline soils and precipitates from fluorine contaminated salt lakes. Sea salt has proven to contain over concentrations of calcium. Our major competitor is Nyanza Mines who has ever failed to meet demands of the vast market. Ours the best in East and Central Africa.

Quality marketing strategies that will attract disgranted competitors'customers.Environment friendly technology quality product, its white ness complexion and capability to preserve relish without going bad.

What makes your business, your product or service innovative?

Customer motivated and value added innovations will be introduced based on conversional affordable technologies. Salt as an additive to be used in white wash, paints and disinfectant. Herdsmen will use salt cakes as licks to their animals.

How will you ensure the growth of your business?

Establish technological innovations in prodution and product handling.Embark on continuous research and development and related product quality control and marketing strategies.Provide for expansion opprtunities by having new avenues in unutilized exra 96 Ha and by providing ordinary shares to be owned by the public

RUSALT is owned by the share holders. governed by the board of directors.The management team consists of General Manager, Production Manager,Sales cum Marketing Manager and Chief Admin/Accountant.During its transition a board member is appointed as a caretaker managing Director until the entire establishment of the company is completed. Mr Ayub Kalufya is entrusted that responsibility. He is a Graduate and has been working with salt mines.

How much time do/will you expect to spend per week in the business?

Production is during dry season (Apr/May-Sept/Oct) 117 manhours a week will be utilized by unskilled labourers and 70 manhours a week will be by skilled workers during rainy season. .

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

Creation of job opportunities to 450 mostly women in salt mining and distribution will consequently reduce HIV/AIDS pandemic spread rate.
Government through 30% sales tax, 35% corporate tax, withholding and income tax to augment education care facilities for all.
Iodized salt to reduce health hazards of its deficiency.
Environment user friendly technology will reduce the rate of fuel wood cut thus creation of means to preserve nature.
