PUM
PUM is Supporting partner of the BiD Challenge.
Sustainable economic growth in developing countries cannot be achieved if it does not benefit the poor. Because industrious small and medium-sized firms play the most significant role in creating new employment, PUM grants preference to local companies. PUM believes that ensuring a sustainable development of the private sector is the best way to fight poverty; there is no ideological basis. Its policy is practical and business-like: helping small and medium-sized businesses stand on their own two feet is more effective than theorising and moralising.
PUM has played an important role in the field of international development assistance for the past 26 years, sending senior experts to more than 70 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Central and Eastern Europe. Upon request, PUM’s experts offer their skills and experience to businesses and organisations in places where these are most needed. PUM projects are intense and generally take two till three weeks.
In the course of their careers, PUM’s advisers have gained extensive experience in nearly every conceivable field. These experts are independent and work on a voluntary basis (they receive no wages). Since its establishment in 1978, PUM has become Europe’s largest ‘job agency’ for professional volunteers who wish to work in developing countries.
As Supporting partner, PUM promotes the BiD Challenge in Africa and motivates its senior experts to support the BiD Challenge directly as screener and coach.
