At the University of Groningen I studied Business and Technologies (1999-2006). My specialisation is focused on the structure of production systems. In this light I did an internship in a large toy factory in Sri Lanka. This country showed me some good examples of private sector development, with self-support, ownership and pride as the main key words. I became interested in development work where the challenge should be to put charity aside and create value for all parties involved.
Back in the Netherlands I found the BiD Network to be engaged in this and joined them straight after graduation:
