INTERESTS
As a project manager I am interested in projects and business plans that have the potential to reach through the thick layers of bureaucracy and reach the poorest on our planet. In my current job we focus on strangthening local govenments and/or water boards as a condition for sustainable development. Capacity building focuses on municipal or district water and waste management, citizen participation, financial management, Human resourses management, education and health.

As a biologist/toxicologist I am interested in plants and other natural resources with medicinal/toxic properties to benefit human/verterinary health or use an alternative for synthetical pesticides. I am also interested in sustainable land-use practices as to conserve our natural environment.

PREVIOUS INITIATIVES
I have experience in participatory business development and creative training programmes in developing countries. One of my former initiatives is setting up a small production plant for rural communities in the vicinity of a national park in Belize. Local women prepare medicinal plants and herbs in a sustainable manner as to conserve the environment and traditional healing practices. The balms and dried herbs are sold at local and international markets through fair-trade agreements to ensure sustainable income. Other (research related) work includes: investigation of toxicological properties of 10 botanical pesticides in Indonesia and conducting an Environmental Impact Assessment of pesticides used in flower production in Ethiopia and Egypt.
