100% Colombian Pectin

NATUREX
100% Colombian Pectin was one of the winners of the 2006 BiD Challenge and was established by three entrepreneurs with the ambition to expand the industrial sector of their home country, Colombia. The innovation of 100% Colombian Pectin consists in having found a profitable, sustainable, and job-creating solution to the coffee agro-industry waste problem. Only 40% of the coffee fruit is employed in coffee production, while the other 60% is discarded as waste. 100% Colombian Pectin uses this residue to extract pectin, a substance with vast uses in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Although Colombia is one of the world’s largest coffee producers, currently no other company in Colombia produces pectin. Consequently, the company has promising prospects for the future, having forecasted sales of 884,000 USD after the first three years and the opportunity to penetrate the international market.
