Ondernemen Zonder Grenzen Kick-Off in Amsterdam

Last week the official Kick-Off event of Ondernemen Zonder Grenzen (Entrepreneurs without borders) took place in Amsterdam. This yearly competition is held to get together and support Dutch social entrepreneurs who have ideas to start a sustainable business in Africa, Asia or Latin-America. The Kick-Off was the official opening of the competition, which means that interested entrepreneurs can now send in their business plan in order to receive coaching to further develop their ideas. Entrepreneurs and experts came together in Amsterdam to meet each other, exchange tips and ideas and to get inspired. The day was filled with networking activities, inspiring talks, speed dates with experts and a small pitching competition. Two successful entrepreneurs, Hajo van Beijma of Text to Change and Roel de Haas of Books for the other 90 percent, talked about their experiences, shared tips and answered questions from starting entrepreneurs. During speed dating sessions experts from VC4Africa, Business Palace, ICCO, SPARK, BiD Network, PUM, Africa Funded, Aqua for All, EY, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, New World Campus, Europe Council and RVO gave advice and feedback to starting and internationally focused entrepreneurs. In the afternoon a Dragon’s Den took place for ‘most promising ideas’. Six brave starting entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas for the jury and public, after which both the jury and the public choose a winner. The public winner won a coaching session with an expert and the winner chosen by the jury won a place in the Ondernemen Zonder Grenzen Summer School, a week full of courses and trainings to prepare entrepreneurs for the competition and for the entrepreneurial journey that lies ahead of them. The day was closed off with drinks and a delicious barbeque, which created even more opportunities to network...

PUM experts coach 100 entrepreneurs over Doet day

On March 15, the day of the Dutch National Volunteer (NL Doet), BiD Network and its coaching partner PUM Netherlands senior experts (PUM) organized the PUM Doet-day, a special event to commemorate PUM’s 35th anniversary. In the days leading up to the event, 150 PUM experts received three pre-selected business plans from the BiD Network platform. This allowed them to arrive prepared at the PUM Doet locations; the PUM headquarters in The Hague, and the penthouse floor of the UWV headquarters in Amsterdam, as generously provided by UWV. The day started with a plenary opening at both locations. In Amsterdam PUM CEO Thijs van Praag highlighted the successes of PUM over the past 35 years, and elaborated on the opportunities that new means of communication can offer to strengthen PUM’s operations in the future. Meanwhile, Hans Luursema, deputy director of PUM welcomed the enthusiastic participants in The Hague. After the plenary sessions the experts split up into groups to begin their workshops. All of the experts participated in a total of three workshops during the day, each time with a different group of participants with different expertise. This was designed to stimulate the discussion on the business plans. In total 100 plans from different sectors and backgrounds were evaluated on six main points: management team, product/service, competitiveness, financial statements and investment readiness. This advice will be published on the summary page of the online business plans in the next few days. The feedback from the experts at PUM will help these entrepreneurs to further develop their business plans, and get them ‘finance-ready’ for investors. The collaboration between BiD Network and PUM was...
