Inspiring IT entrepreneurship in Liberia

On December 4, the first Information Technology (IT) Workshop took place at the IT Building of the University of Liberia. With 50 attendees, the IT Workshop served as a motivational and inspirational session for young entrepreneurs interested in venturing in this still nascent sector in the country.

App/software development; IT innovations in Africa; innovation technology labs and impressive IT start-ups like Facebook/Twitter, were the topics discussed in this first workshop. The IT Workshop series is part of the IT Business Plan Competition organized by the Business Start-Up Center, Lonestar Cell MTN Foundation and iLab, with the support of Spark and BiD Network.

With the introduction of the fiber optic cable in Liberia, the competition aims at advancing young Liberians in the Information Technology Sector through entrepreneurship. The goal of this competition is to support young entrepreneurs in developing the IT sector in Liberia, improve their skills, knowledge, expertise and understanding of the potential of this sector. The IT Business Plan Competition with its inspirational workshops, training sessions and coaching will increase the level of IT awareness and business skills available to aspiring entrepreneurs. The access to finance within the competition will increase the likelihood of successful start-ups and their growth.
