What do investors really want?
Guy Kawasaki, partner with Garage.com, the most famous investor group in Silicon Valley has written a book, "The Art of the Start" in which he shares his experience with starting entrepreneurs.
At TiECon, on May 13, 2006, he gives a 30 minute presentation on starting enterprises from an investors perspective. The presentation is one of the best presentations I have ever seen. It is very true and meaningful. Besides that, it is also very hilarious. A must see for every entrepreneur who whishes to "catch" an investor.
For those of you who want the short story"the Art of the Start" says :
- Create a business with meaning. One that improves peoples lives.
- Have a short Mantra, not a mission statement.
- Get going: don't do endless research.
- Don't be afraid to make a product which suits only a small group a people.
- Define a simple business model.
- Marketing! Add value to the customer and offer a unique product.
- 10-20-30: no more than 10 slides in a presentation; no more than 20 minutes to present and 30 point font size letters
- Hire people better than yourself
- make it easy for customers to adopt your product
... but the video is better!
