Results BiD Challenge 2005
In 2005 we received a total of 792 Round 1 business plans from all around the world. 14 were intended for Central and Eastern Europe, 7 for the Middle-East and Northern Africa, 136 for Latin America, 199 for Asia and the majority, 297 for Africa. 47 participants did not yet defined a location for their plan.
The BiD Challenge was launched worldwide in November 2004. By February 1st 2005, 792 ideas from 65 countries were submitted for Round 1 and 1500 members registered.
These 792 ideas were screened and the 40 most promising ones selected for round 2. These 'Round 2 participants' were linked to a professional coach and stimulated to develop his or her idea into an accountable business plan in the 6 weeks that followed. 20 plans in 4 categories were screened and selected by an expert panel and presented to a prominent Jury.
16 Participants from developing countries were invited to the Netherlands in the week prior to the Challenge Market and Final Award Ceremony on June 3rd. They could make use of the BiD network in search for partners and expertise. On june 3rd, 80 business plans were presented to a professional public from the private sector, government and NGO’s.
10 plans received a total amount of 105.000 euro’s prize money. Besides the 10 winners, already more than 10 BiD entrepreneurs started their business and found finance via our partners and network.

In total over 200 professionals were engaged in the BiD Challenge to screen, coach and evaluate all the plans.
