Yachaqui Wayi consists of:

• Homestays in communities committed to conserving the Andean culture and environment and sustainable poverty alleviation.

Yachaqui Wayi means “House of Learning" of “House of Sharing Knowledge" in local Quechua. As all the important decisions in this project, the name of our Center was found by our local mountain community members, members of our project, who during participatory processes are involved in the decision-making process of the Center. We want this Center to be theirs, and after a period of training they will be administrating the whole center by themselves, as they are already administrating the community-based tourism projects in their own communities.

Environment

Yachaqui Wayi is situated in Huaraz, the capital of the Callejón de Huaylas. This valley is dominated by the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra, two mountain ranges offering endless options for people interested in (mountain) sports and culture.

Accomodation

The hostel of Yachaqui Wayi is unique in Huaraz. It is a hostel managed by an association of campesinos, and all of the workers in the hostel are local male and female with knowledge and experience in international tourism. The combination of a continuous presence of both campesinos and international volunteers gives the hostel of Yachaqui Wayi a unique intercultural character, creating the necessary atmosphere to learn together about how we can all contribute to a better world through responsible tourism.
