Uganda: NWSC Wants Private Sector Partnership

The Ugandan National Water and Sewerage Corporation is sourcing for partners to expand its management services to the private sector.

"We have been twining with government institutions and organisations abroad in services like organisational behaviour change, performance management, contract design and incentive systems, finance management and systems development as well as commercial and customer care among others. Now we want to get partnership from the private sector," the Managing Director, Dr William Muhairwe, said.

He was speaking on April 20 after signing an agreement with Kagga and Partners for design and consultancy services for the construction of Mutungo Namave main water reservoir project.

Kagga and Partners won the ten months contract worthy Shs270 million beating six other firms that bided. Work is expected to start in two weeks time.

Muhairwe urged the Managing Director of Kagga and Partners, Mr Peter Magambo, to ensure that quality work is done. "You have not won because you are favoured, but your bid was responsive and had the lowest bid. I hope you are going to do a fantastic job in the stipulated time so that the people of Mukono get clean water," Muhairwe said.

"NWSC will not hesitate to cancel the contract if shoddy work is done," he added.

NWSC, a public corporation established in 1972, is one of the few government institutions that have excelled in management services and exported its services to other countries.
