A celebration of the arts held annually in the different regions of maHarlikHan Philippines.
Sunrise Festivals are national events organized by the Maharlika Artists & Writers Federation. A collaborative effort among professional and upcoming artists in the country, the festivals are a continuing cultural movement to develop a high value and a total integration of all aspects of the arts: music, theatre, literary, dance, senses, emotions, intuition and spirit. The First Sunrise Festival was held in the Queen City of the South, Cebu. The Second Sunrise Festival in the Paradise Island of Boracay, The Third Sunrise Festival was celebrated in the City of Gentle People, Dumaguete and the Fourth Sunrise Festival in the City of Flowers, Baguio. The Fifth Sunrise Festival will be held in the City of World Peace in Pampanga in the Central plains of Luzon in November of 2008.
The 2008 Fifth Sunrise Festival is envisioned to be the quintessential prototype of the succeeding Sunrise Festivals in the way it is to be organized and mounted. A series of minor events leading to the festival proper is initiated on the first day of the year in the region where the Sunrise Festival is to be held. Woven into the fabric are actual and virtual meetings by the MAWF core group and the local counterpart. Events are also to be mounted in the regions where past Sunrise Festivals were held and where future Sunrise festivals may be envisioned.
The Motivation to bid for hosting the Fifth Sunrise Festival was the inspired Kapampangangan Delegation's participation in the 4th Sunrise Festival in the City of Pines and EverLasting Flowers. The objective is for Pampanga to have the honor of hosting a Sunrise Festival and setting a pattern and model for a professionally mounted art Festival for the inspiration of other hosting regions for the future.
The Concept: The concept is a SUNRISE FESTIVAL in the CITY of WORLD PEACE to last a full month, with a newly coined Kapampangan word "yuHya", which means" Ideal Dreams Whose Times Have Come", as the Festival Theme.
The Vision:
The Fifth Sunrise Festival softly opening on the full moon of November 12, 2008 with the ritual lighting of candles at the Land of the Rising Sun's Shrine of the Divine Winds (Kamikaze) where the concept of the City of World Peace begins, the flames will then be brought to nearby kilometer 95 in a place that shall be called laHarlikHa , where stones are made into bread and mystic mountains made to rise. For a forthnight until the the new moon grand opening of the festival proper on Thanksgiving Day 2008, an artists' collective will put up the " Kampung Kawayan " art camp in Kilometer 95 Mabalacat, Pampanga to conduct art workshops for the local communities, gather materials, prepare the festival grounds and create ephemeral installations. At sunset of the 28th of November, the Festival exhibits, performances, lectures and other artistic activities and programs shall officially begin at the the biggest sandbox in the globe in the City of World Peace. On the night of the 29th, a musical concert with a multi-media show will be staged in the plaza in the center of the town.The Festival Proper ends at sunrise on the 30th, Bonifacio Day.The Exhibits will continue until Pampanga day December 12, rounding the Festival's duration to a a full month.
