The Business

What is your product/service?

The project has as its main objective to establish a sugar mill to produce brown sugar in Nicaragua.It includes the establisment of 100 hectars of sugar cane with organic farming practices, a sugar mill facility and a waterwheel to run the grinder, a hydroelectric generator that will provide the energy necessary to run the sugar mill and a battery charging facility to charge the batteries that will light the households of small farmers.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

The brown sugar production will be sold in the local supermarkets and groceries stores that are located near the area where the project will be implemented. This product is highly demanded since it is much healthier and cheaper than white refined sugar.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

The brown sugar produced is organic and cheaper than white refined sugar. It has a positive impact on the health of the workers, the consumers, and the environment.

Describe the entrepreneur & management

I have 17 year-experience in the growing and processing of sugar cane to make brown sugar. I am familiar with all the processes that are involved in this activity....preharvest, harvest and postharvest. I have the land available and the human resources to start this busness.
The project will begin by selecting the small farmers that are interested in growing sugar cane, training them in the making of organic fertilizers, and organic pesticides.

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

This project will give small farmers an opportunity to improve their living conditions by getting engaged in a profitable business that is freindly with the enviroment. This project will use ecological farming practices that will have a positive impact on the health its workers, the people of the community, and on the health of the environment.
