The Business

What is your product/service?

We provide basic healthcare facilities such as general health screening and curative services to the doorsteps of middle-income Indian villagers who are in dire need of quality medical treatment.
A Mobile Van equipped with basic medical equipment, supplies and medicine carries a medical team comprising of
• a senior doctor (M.B.B.S. & MD)
• a nurse (basic diploma in general nursing and midwifery) and
• a medicine dispenser
This business plan initially focuses on one district of 2 million people and if successful will be scaled appropriately to encompass a much larger geographic area with a target population of 80-100 million. The goal of this business plan is to implement a program in one district for a period of two years. Currently, the pilot run is spread over four villages in a 20 km zone around Pilani, a small town in the Jhunjhunu District of Rajasthan, India. These villages are - Jherli, Garinda, Kulhariyon Ka Baas and Thimau Choti.
The mobile van carries:
• Standard Medicines / Antibiotics as prescribed by WHO
• Saline Bottles
• Life Saving Drugs
• Cold storage devices (for drugs, vaccines etc.)
These medicines are procured on a credit basis from N AND D House Of Health Pvt. Ltd. for the pilot run.
The van visits each village every 5th day. This is based on the standard 5 day follow up dosage of medicines. Strategic locations at each village have been identified where the doctor interacts with patients. The prescribed drugs are supplied to the patients at the centre itself. The service saves both time and money for the patient.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

Pamphlets were prepared in Hindi, which contained information about the primary healthcare service provided by Mobile Medics. These well-designed pamphlets include information that would establish credibility, build awareness as well as provide essential details on pricing, venue and timings.
For the pilot run, we are using the technique of extensive door-to-door marketing with the help of student volunteers and influential local contacts. It is a very efficient way of marketing as well as understanding the customers as not only is the service explained but also immediate feedback is received from the villagers through interactive discussions. Pamphlets are distributed during this exercise. Local bus drivers were also empowered by giving them pamphlets to be distributed to the people commuting in the bus in return for a small commission.

Consultation fees of $0.75 is discounted to $0.50 for a follow-up case. Blood pressure check up is done free of cost.

Our competitors are quacks/self-claimed practitioners. We take well-qualified personnel to provide a high quality service at affordable costs to the patients’ doorstep thereby reducing transport costs and wastage of time.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

There is a imbalance between the demand(patients in rural area) and supply(doctors & facilities in urban area) in the healthcare market in India. Usually in most healthcare models, the demand comes to the supply (patients to cities). Mobile Medics takes the doctor to the doorstep of Rural India.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

Our mission is to positively impact millions of lives by providing access to affordable healthcare services in rural India through the provision of mobile medical visits. Mobile Medics aims to solve the problem of delivering healthcare on a sustainable basis to rural areas in Rajasthan. If we can solve it here, we can potentially solve this problem in many parts of the world.
Our focus is on prevention; early detection and first-line treatment using globally accepted standards. Our goal is to eventually create the world’s largest mobile medical healthcare network that will bring thousands of doctors to millions of villagers around the world, and preventing hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

Affordable and accessible healthcare will impact lives in a major way. Also, a trusted organization will be built that can later provide services related to education, clean drinking water etc. The company will start with providing basic healthcare and slowly build a network of professionals and people to provide employment to thousands of people across rural India.
