Savanna Business plan

The business plan was developed during my work placement in Ghana, together with me and another party.

The Business

What is your product/service?

The main product of Savanna Pure Honey is honey. this honey is produced in the communities from the beneficiaries of the literacy projects of LDP. The processing of the honey is done by LDP, as they are already posessing a processing plant which has been built before with support from NOVIB.

A secondary product of beehives is beeswax. the beeswax is used by the bees to store the honey in. the beeswax has not been harvested before, but there are excellent sales opportunities for the sale of the beeswax.
LDP has no experience in harvesting and processing beeswax. However, they can rely on the knowledge of several beekeepers and other development organisations for technical knowhow.

Explain how you will sell your product/service (marketing strategy) and how you will reach your customers (distribution strategy)?

Currently, the total amount of honey produced is sold within 5 months after being harvested, without any promotional activities. This in combination with the fact that untill now the honey has only been sold from the office of LDP.

There have already been discussions with several supermarkets in Tamale to start regulated distribution. This supermarkets will provide us a decent market share to the overall population of Tamale at first whereafter we will be able to expand to other Ghanaian regions.

The core aspect of SPHC honey is the quality of the honey itself. Almost all of our customers are coming back for more honey due to the quality.

furthermore, SPHC will follow a competitive pricing strategy.

Competition
there is some small competition active in and around Tamale. However, these types of honey have a visisble lower quality. Most of the competitor's honey is spoiled with dust and other particles which is visible from the outside. This is very important as honey in Ghana is mostly judged by the customer, the way it looks.

What makes your business different/better than your competitors (competitive advantage)?

The quality of the honey makes our product unique. first of all the low moisture content in combination with the high-quality processing facilities concude in a very high quality product.

The Entrepreneur & Management

Describe the entrepreneur & management

Me, myself, I am a third student, studying a Bachelor of Business Administration in the Netherlands. I went to Ghana to do my work placement.
During this work placement, I was able to work on the whole business plan. therefore I gained experience in marketing as well as in finance as well as a piece of supply chain management.
Due to the cooperation between us and SNV, the projects includes a lot of technical knowhow and the people which are currently on the project all have at least Bachelor of Science grades.

Development

How does your business improve the local living standards (social and environmental)?

Throught this project, the literacy beneficiaries can learn some individual enterpreneurial skills. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to extend their small amounts of money the get to live from.

It also stimulates the analfabetic farmers to participate in the literacy programm so that the rate of analfabetism in the Ghana Northern Region is decreased.
